Hello All!

Friday on Jan 4th, 2:39pm little miss Ella Madelyn Lewis was born vaginally 7lb 14 oz and 20.5 inches long. My birth experience was very traumatizing and I think I am still trying to get over it, but when I look at my little girl I truly just fall in love with her all over again...

Due to having Type 1 diabetes and them saying my little girl wasnt so little, they decided to induce me at 38 weeks. I went into the hospital on Jan3rd to have a foley catheter placed into my cervix to dilate me. They use this method so they do not have to use hormones to make me favorable for induction. I was tolerating the balloon for a while and then around 1am, it became quite painful with contractions and cramping so they took the balloon out around 2am, gave me some sleep medication since within 3 hrs I would be induced with pitocin. At this point i was 3cm dilated.

Around 4:30am my doctor came back in, broke my water and started the pitocin. I labored pretty well until about 11am and it was getting harder to breathe through the contractions so by noon my epidural was ready to go in. Once they put that in, what a relief! I didnt have to breathe through contractions and I was able to relax and even get some rest.

Once i got to 8cm I started to have this overwhelming feeling to push. my body just wanted to get going I guess. So they topped up my medicine and that feeling went away again.. I got to 9.5cm, the nurse came in and stretched me a little bit so we can get the show on the road and start pushing because the overwhelming desire to push was coming back.. around 1pm I was pushing. . and pushing and pushing and pushing... I was getting so tired and was sleeping in between each push...

Around 2:30pm my OB/Gyn finally came in and was like.. THIS IS LABOR!! PUSH!! and then I think he realized that maybe something was wrong. The baby wasnt doing well with the labor.. The doctor ended up having to cut me pretty much down my entire perineum :( It didnt hurt at the time, just stung from the anesthetic and my princess was born, but not without some complications. After the doctor cut me, she came out but was completely blue from her cord being wrapped around her neck twice. They cut that off of her and finally we heard her cry and cried ourselves a huge sense of relief that she was ok! But because he snipped me, and with me pushing, she came out of the canal too fast and her head swelled up as well, and her face was all bruised from hitting my tailbone on the way out.

She was also grunting a bit but after a little skin to skin contact she was much better...
and beleive it or not, the bruising is pretty much gone even 3 days later.

So I have about 8 stitches, a cracked tailbone (which is making it increasingly hard to take care of my little one, and even to get off of the couch so I have been having some baby blues over not being the best mommy I can be.)... I am in rough shape. :/ Then I look at Ella and smile and realize it was all worth it. She is the cutest.

She is completely healthy but because of the fluid pocket on her scalp it is causing a bit of jaundice (Since the red blood cells are beign reabsorbed back in to the body). The jaundice wasnt bad enough to keep her in the hospital so we just have to feed her every 3 hrs and make sure she is pooping enough, we go back tomorrow to get her checked out and make sure her levels are decreasing.

We are home now, and getting into a routine. So glad to have my husband and our families for help. My husband is absolutely smitten over our little girl.

So heres a few pics for you :)
