Elodie Elizabeth Rose arrived into the world at 37+6 on Tuesday 18th June 12 hours after my waters broke

I had been in a slow and inconsistent "pre-labour" for a week. On the Sunday before she was born, I decided to use some evening primrose oils as pessaries and despite increasing my crampiness, Monday came and went with irregular contractions. It was worth noting that I had several incidents of diarrhea and I wondered sadly if all the cramping and contracting had just been my bowels. My right foot also swelled up and went purple. I called my midwife who said it sounded normal, despite elevation and a night's sleep not helping. I went to bed Monday night deciding to put two more capsules in and then to wait until Wednesday when I was due a sweep at 38 weeks. At 5am, I woke to a heavy discharge which I thought was the evening primrose oil seeping out but when I sat up to check I had a whoosh of waters which came out alarmingly fast.
Fast forward an hour later and at 6am I was at the hospital where a midwife was saying she wasn't convinced my waters had gone even though it was humanely impossible for anyone to wee out the amount of waters in the quantity or fashion which I did

I was fully dilated at 4pm and my midwife left me for an hour to let baby descend as much as possible and at 5pm she came back and asked me to push. She warned me that because I was so numb from the epidural it could take a while to push and she said if I was pushing for more than an hour she'd get the ventouse or forceps. My first thought was, "oh hell no!" and then bizarrely "if I get her out soon I'll be in time for dinner."

She coached me through the contractions and told me to push. The whole time she was saying, "you're doing so well" and I thought she was spouting platitudes until she suddenly unwrapped baby's cot, buzzed another midwife and then told me to pant. My baby's head popped out and after another push, I birthed her shoulders. She was put right onto my chest and I was stunned to see how beautiful and perfect my little girl is. She scored 9/10 on the APGAR and 5 minutes later got 10/10. Clever lady

In total, it was 12 hours and 15 minutes from waters breaking til birth. I had a calm and positive experience and I am so in love with my girl.
