Megan used to spit up a lot and seemed to have a lot of wind, used to wind her every ounce at one stage.

She has been on Aptamil Comfort, which seems to be working fine, my doc gave it to us on prescription but now says we cant get it anymore so we should switch her to Enfamil AR.

Megan also suffers from constipation which the doctor is aware of. Enfamil AR seems to mostly be for reflux only??

So will her colic/wind problems get worse again? And i have seen online that it causes constipation- we really dont need anymore of that!!!! :growlmad:

What do you use if you have a baby with similar problems?

Just really worried that we are doing something wrong. Its also got rice in it- is this not bad for her at 8 weeks?

Thanks!!!

xx

My wee one has been on this from 2 weeks and at the start it did constipate her. Now at 7 weeks she's not so bad-she goes everyday but it is hard and she strains though there isn't any screaming like there was when she first went on it. I think she is more used to it plus her wee tummy is that bit more mature to deal with it. I was told to offer up to 2 oz of water a day to ease the constipation. However my friend's son was on enfamil also and had no constipation. Hopefully that'll be the case for you too.
Enfamil AR is for regurgitation/spit up and is used for reflux as it keeps the milk down and so also the acid.
Good luck and hope it works for you.

I admit it caused a lot of stomach and gut pain in my boy but it was unfortunately the only thing that would keep it down.

RE: Rice in bottle

As you are probably aware, it's a big no-no due to choking hazard and a whole other host of issues. That being said, I can understand being in that position where you are dealing with an ill baby and doing everything in your power to help her. We held off (this was recommended to us at 6 weeks) and started offering a wee bit of banana around 15 weeks to help deal with his acid reflux disease.

You can give it a try - but yes, constipation and worse gut pains are not uncommon. Good luck!

The OP is saying the specialist formula has rice in it,

not that she is planning to give rice in a bottle. Hun it is fine; its a specially created thickener that does not interact with the body, comfort milk has similar but it is made of corn instead of rice xx

Def not thinking of adding rice!!! I am going to speak to the doc and see if there is another milk that might not cause so much constipation.... we are struggling with that already and dont want that to get worse if i can help it.

I might just stick with comfort- though we now have to pay for it. Oh well if it works then thats for the best. We were lucky until now anyway, getting it on prescription....

Thanks for the advice ladies...
xx

If the comfort is affordable for you I'd just continue with that; you're very lucky to have got it on prescription even for a while because in my area and many others any milk or medicine you can buy over the counter or in a shop; they won't prescribe, cutbacks and all of that. When my second youngest was on comfort milk for medical reasons I always had to buy it :D xx

It is annoying that they dont do it on prescription when they need it for medical reasons. Makes me wonder why i have paid my NI for god knows how many years!! Oh well thats another discussion....

xx
