I have read a significant amount of literature that indicates that an enlarged yolk sac (>5mm) is of concern and often results in pregnancy loss. Having suffered two miscarriages (5 wks and 7 wks) this year with 22-yr-old donor eggs, we were elated to have made it to our 9.0 week u/s. The fetus measures perfectly and has a heartbeat of 176 (each of our 4 prior u/s have been good - measured on target with good heartbeat). We have had a subchorionic hematoma that has been present since our 5 wk u/s; we presume this is the cause of infrequent spotting of fresh and old blood.
My concern is that at this 9 wk u/s, the yolk sac measures 7mm. Previous scans (from my memory) showed the yolk sac measured in normal range. I've also read that around 10 wks the yolk sac may enlarge slightly before ultimately regressing.
Any thoughts or concerns about an enlarged yolk sac at 9 wks with other values normal?
