Enough milk? Or lots of gas?

My son is 7 weeks old. Hasn't pooped for 4 days. He shows signs of having gas: thrashing his legs, grunting and lots of farts. He feeds about every 4 hours, one breast at a time. If I pump both breasts, I get 6-7 ounces. Wet diapers every time he eats.

I'm worried about his intake, even though I know he is eating a lot, he pukes a lot too. He may have reflux but he sleeps wonderfully. He does squirm a lot when he is awake.

Anyone have insight or reassurance on how little he is pooping? He has never had a hard poop, but he usually smears when he farts, and he hasn't in a couple days. We can't weigh him as we are out of town.

Please give me your opinion?

I think my LO reduced her pooping around about that many weeks. It's totally normal for breast fed babies to go days without pooping. I think it's also quite normal for them to have gas (although the health visitor always told be breastfed babies don't get wind?!). Sounds like you have plenty of milk and I wouldn't worry too much about that. Just make sure you fully empty one breast before offering another to make sure your baby isn't getting just foremilk which might make him windy. Also maybe avoid orange juice- apparently a classic cause of gas in breastfed babies!

Thank you! He was exceptionally smiley today, so I feel good that he's not in excessive pain. It's still nerve-wracking when your kid doesn't poop.

We get a LOT of gas. LO wears a Happi Tummi band during and after feeding. It is very effective! He is still a frequent pooper (3/4 a day) though around 8 weeks it dropped from 8-10 poops! Also, a teaspoon of gripe water in an oz or 2 of warm (not hot!) water from the kettle when particularly uncomfy can be helpful.
