Having a hard time with girls names!
I like Evelyn but was planning to use Eva as an everyday name. I've fallen at the first hurdle and am not sure how to pronounce it.. Is it eve-lyn or ev-lyn? Middle name may be joy after Hubbies nan who was so important to him.
We also liked Lilian.

Any thoughts? Any other names that go along that theme?

I love Joy as a middle name!

I always pronounce Evelyn as "ev-a-lynn" (3 syllables) which isn't even one of your choices, lol.

I prefer just Eva Joy as the full name!

Addtl suggestions:

Ava Joy
Adalyn Joy
Eden Joy
Avery Joy
Abigail Joy (Abby) <--- The name Abigail means "father's joy"
Eliana Joy (Ellie)

You can pronounce it either way, I pronounce it ev-a-lyn. It's one of my fave names I love it x

Other suggestions
Abigail
Elsie
Ellenor

Love Lillian too x

I love Evelyn, I'd consider it if not for having like 3 relatives named Evelyn and two friends with little Evelyns! I don't think it's terribly popular in general but for some reason I know a truckload of them.

Anyway, I also pronounce it with three syllables (Ev-ah-lynn). Eva could work (one of my aunts goes by Eve with the hard 'ee' sound) but I personally like the softer E and would go with Evie!

I have an Evelyn!

We pronounce it as PPs have said Ev-a-lyn, and we call her Evie.

I do like Eva though- pronounced ee-va which sounds lovely with Joy.

I pronounce it ev-a-lyn. And love Joy as the middle name.

Love Evelyn both ds2 and 3 would have been Evelyn (we would have gone down Evie route) had they been girls.
Similar prononciation as pp

My DD is an Ev-a-lyn not shortened at all to Eva, Eve or Evie.

I love it obviously and also adore Lillian but OH has vetoed for this bump - otherwise you've chosen my 2 favourite names.

But yes, either way on pronunciation - it's what you prefer. Some people say eve-Lyn

I tend to say Eve-lyn, but I used to live on a road that was Ev-a-lyn, so that might be why. What about Evangeline nn Eva?

I love Evangeline but I worry it's a bit long winded? It's so difficult with a girl!

It's not long winded at all, it's beautiful! And if you were going to mainly use Eva it doesn't even matter. It's only 4 syllables which is the same as names like Amelia, Isabella etc.

I know to2 Evelyns and one is pronouned Ev - a - lin and the other is pronounced Eva - line. I prefer the first one.

I pronounce it ev-a-lyn. Honestly, if you are saying it out loud and at a normal pace, you can't really tell whether someone is pronouncing is one way or the other. I do have a friend who named her daughter Evlyn. She left out the second "E" all together.

Ok, cos I don't know whether it's my accent but if I say it the way a lot of people on here say they say it I would be saying it more evil-in sort of thing? I had imagined it being a two syllable name, but people seem to be suggesting it's 3? I don't know anyone in real life with the name!

I absolutely love Evelyn. Unfortunately my hubby doesn't :( I would pronounce it E-va-lyn.

Maybe it's prounounced differently depending on what region you are in? I live in Wisconsin and have only ever heard it prounounced Ev-a-lyn. Do you prefer once pronounciation over the other?

I have an Aunty Evelyn and we say Eve-Lynn in two syllables. But i think most of the babies being called it nowadays get Ev-a-Lin which I think is prettier

Joy is a lovely middle name (it's my middle name hehe)

I love Lily it's my all time favourite name so my choice from your picks is Lillian Joy nn Lily
