Ever heard of Clary Sage SLOWING down labour?

I've been rubbing Clary Sage into my bump for weeks now, I'm finally in the early stages of labour this morning (1 minute contractions between 3 and 10 minutes apart) and so far I've found that when I sniff a piece of fabric with clary sage oil on it, my contraction seems less intense and I then don't get one for a little while. I'm pretty sure its the clary sage as until I started using this this morning the contractions were every 5 minutes regularly.

I've just looked it up and have found that clary sage is an antispasmodic but I've always thought it would bring on/accelerate labour...? Can aromatherapy oils work differently for different people? Should I perhaps save the sniffing for 2nd stage?

Anyone heard of this?

I was using clary sage and read the same thing and have angrily set it aside! just don;t touch it until you are least in established labour

No but I heard of water (bath) sometimes slowing down EARLY labour, and of course people use clary sage in the bath xx
