I have heard tht your second baby is easier, well i hope it is i had a long one with my first was in hospital over 24 hours the pain was immense..

Everyone I've asked (including midwives) keep saying the second is generally quicker, but now I'm worried I've set myself up for disappointment as I'm assuming it will be, but know that there's always exceptions.

Here's hoping for quicker easier labours for all 2nd+ babies!

mine was i was 49 hrs in labour with my first stuck at 6cm for 12 of them but with my second i was 3 hrs from start to finish having my third in febuary and doing it at home this time so i hope its as quick good luck ladies x

Mine was, 35 hours with my first and under an hour and a half with my second! had Pethadine with my first but had no time for pain relief with the second as I delivered him on the floor at the hospital 20 minutes after getting there!

I'm a bit worried about this, as my first labour was only 5 hours from the very first contraction to holding him in my arms! I was told at the time of my first sons birth to prepare for a homebirth if i get pregnant again... now i am, its getting closer i'm worried i'll pop him out in half an hour or something. Also, the hospital is a 25min drive from my house and neither i or hubby drive!

Having said all of that, he's transverse/breech right now so it may not even happen naturally. I hate the unknown!!

Yeah it was quicker second time for me, but also i found it easier to cope with if you know what i mean. it obviously still hurt like hell but i already had that foreknowledge of how bad it would get, whereas with my first i panicked as i didnt know.

First time:- 24 hours with epidural, ventouse & forceps

Second Time:- delivered within 2 hours of getting to hospital with not even a drop of gas &air. laboured on and off prior to this at home since early hours (it kept stopping & starting) established labour about 6 hours long.

I think its scary the second time when you've had a bad experience first time and i know i spent a lot of time anxious about it. but in the end i just decided to trust my body, cope for as long as possible at home (my toddler was great pain relief making me laugh) and remember that epidurals are amazing if you do need one! :-)

XXX

my second was very quick and alot less painful than my first also chose no pain relief and didnt really need it had her within 2 hours of getting to hospital very relaxed and confident that my body would guide me.

Had pethedine and LOTS of gas and air with my first and feel that that held me back when it came to pushing and left me with no energy to really enjoy my little one afterwards, whereas with my second I was full of energy and out of hospital within 6 hours as opposed to 3 days with my first.

Having a home birth this time as the hospital is a half hour drive away and feel confident enough after my second birth that a birth doesnt have to be traumatic or overly painful my only worry is that I wont know when to call the midwife as with my last I really didnt know how far or how close I was to having her about 10 minutes before she came I remember saying to the midwife 'if I ask for any pain relief dont give it to me' and she said 'I think its a little bit too late for that now hayley babys nearly here' lol my waters burst and with a couple of pushes she was out :-) xx

I think I was one of the exceptions when it comes to this. I was 2 days in hospital with first before baby made her appearance. I thought my second had to go quicker than that, but he took his sweet time too and it was 2 days again.

I'm now due No.3 and hoping that this time things will go a bit quicker. I did have a big age gap between mine last time (10 years) so maybe that was why things didn't go any quicker. This time there will be 3 years between them, so who knows.

I have 19 years between my first two and the second one was very, very fast. I don't know when labor started because I couldn't feel it. She was born just over an hour after we got to the hospital for a scheduled induction that didn't happen because I was already at 4-5 cm and contracting when the doctor was checking. I really hope this one takes longer or that we at least have some warning so everyone can get to the hospital.

Including the latent phase, I was 30 hours with DS1 and 8.5 hours with DS2 so my second came much quicker. It only took 4 hours to get from 1cm to 9cm dilated.

yes i think it is.
my first 5 days in labour with forceps episotomy and epidural
2nd was induced nothing till about 2am then it was only like a mild bellyache 3am asked for a paracetemol 4.07am baby born was hurting for about 30 mins max including all the stitches being done etc

I'm a bit worried about this, as my first labour was only 5 hours from the very first contraction to holding him in my arms! I was told at the time of my first sons birth to prepare for a homebirth if i get pregnant again...

My first was only 3 1/2 hours (3cm to holding LO) and they told me after that next time I should get to the hospital as soon as I feel the first twinge. I'm actually hoping it won't be as quick this time. It was too fast and too furious! but i'm really hoping for an easier birth than last time.

For most I think it is, but obvuiously any birth can have complications. But for the most part you can probably look positive towards it that it will be quicker, especially if you gave birth less than 5 years ago.

No idea what it will be like for me, im having twinsm my first was fairly tramatic but twins seems like a complicated nightmare before we begin. lol!

Good luck hun, hope its smooth and quick for you x

Maybe, maybe not. My second was only quicker by 1 hour 10 minutes.
