Experiences of getting married abroad.

As the title says really. Did you do a package holiday or book it seperate? Did you go alone or take family? where did you go? Was it special or did it feel rushed and not personal. Thats my biggest worry I think.

We want to do it just us and Meadow. Cant agree where when or who to book through tho!

Im pretty certain our familys would be pissed off. My cousin did it the other week and my Nana rang me up complaining.

I couldnt think of anything worse than a traditional wedding with a ceremony, meal, and then disco with everybody looking at me. Its not my cup of tea at all. Plus they cost a fortune.

Oh and how much did it cost if you dont mind answering that. :D

Im like you, cant stand the idea of a huge church wedding and will also be going abroad :) You can get brochures from the travel agents and they can book it as a package for you so you dont have to worry about anything!!

I will be inviting family and friends but i know not everyone will beable to make it but at least i asked!! xx

Edit: Id like to get married in Cyprus or Mexico :)

Hi

i got married in paphos cyprus in july 06, we booked a package through tompsons, i can not remember how much it was but i'm pretty sure the whole wedding cost us about £10,000 an we had a party in england too.

it was lovely we got married in st george chapel an had a reception at a place called zucchinni's, we booked this seperate to the wedding package as a friend from work had got married there the prev year an it looked stunning!! i would def recommend zucchinni;s to anyone its at the top of the mountains an the service was a million times better than u get in the uk, in some ways i do wish we had got married there too but i did love st george chapel.

we had around 40 guests join us in cyprus.

sorry i have waffled on now ha ha

feel free to ask me any questions i'll try not to waffle

thanks

I kind of like the idea of getting married in Kenya and then going on a safari. Or perhaps in Florida and then having a disney holiday.

Me and OH were originally going to do this through Thomson I think. We were going to get married in Santorini in Greece, just us two and Charlie. I think it's a really romantic idea x

We got married in Jamianca - cost us around £3000 ( holiday for the 2 of us, dress, suits for men, bridesmaids dresses, legal fees, steel band, flowers & champagne)

If you are looking at just the 2 of you and Meadow - Europe is not too bad, but if you have guests, it will be expensive. We looked into it, and realised it would have cost us the same as if we would have done it here ( due to having to hire a hall, pay church fees, or for a municipal building)

It was basically £150 to get married (legal fees) in Jamaica, and then you can spend as much or as little as you want.

There are more difficultlies than you think when picking somewhere
France: have to be there for 21 days before the wedding
Spain: Not legal
Europe in general: not legal to get married on beach
Greece: have to be there 8 ( i think) days before wedding.

We booked as a huge package holiday for 38 of us, left our town together on a huge coach, arrived at hotel together, left together and arrived back in home town together! LOL

It did not feel rushed at all. Many people say that your wedding day is a blur, well, mine wasnt I remember it all really well. I think that is because we had a week before the wedding all together, so on the day, i didnt have to worry that i felt like i HAD to go round a room full of pple i hadnt seen in ages, and check they were ok etc, we just had a huge meal together, and it was sooooooooooo relaxed!

We booked through Portland Holidays (part of Thompson) and our party all got upgraded rooms from normal to Suites ( usually at a cost of £500 per couple for the 14 nights)

We went to the Riu Ocho Rios in Jamaica, and i would thoroughly recommend it

It felt so special!, and I would not change anything ( not even the fact the hotel had no electricity in the morning, and everyone except me was flapping about it!)

we're getting married next september in disney in florida sam, and tbh, i really think it's the best decision we ever made. we're lucky that our families will be there, and i really didn't want everything that comes along with a wedding in england, like you, it really isn't me!

i think the budget for abroad can be what ever you want it to be, some of the beautiful Caribbean hotels offer it for free! worth a look into! for our disney wedding we are looking at a budget of around 10,000 - 15,000, but def could do it cheaper if we needed/wanted.

as for your family, i always think its your special day, for do what you and your OH want :D and too top it off, you get your princess there :D its wonderful thought :D xxx

Anna your wedding looks beautiful! I really want to get married barefoot on a beach :D

Carly - where abouts are you having the ceremony in florida?

well we are staying in the disney resort and looking at the swan and dolphin hotel, so hoping to have the wedding their too :) thats the plan, we're booking it in the coming weeks :wohoo: only a year to go :yipee:

DH and I were married in Okinawa Japan. Nobody but us. We had been engaged for 9 months and sort of just got married spur of the moment while I was out there visiting him (he's in the army and was stationed there) I still plan on having a wedding wedding though. I was really suprised how many people were upset that they weren't there to see it!

oooh glad i found this thread. we are planning on getting married in vegas and i cant wait. i only want me oh and our girls there. we will invite a cpl of ppl but i doubt theyll come because the flights are quite expensive.
