Hi guys,

I noticed it ages ago but never thought anything of it til I was just on the Internet and read something about how an extra crease or creases in one leg can indicate hip problems.

Skye was checked at birth for clicky hips and then had an ultrasound scan at 8 weeks because I had clicky hips as a baby. All checks and scans were normal and she was given the all clear.

So now I'm wondering if it could be related to anything else? Everything on the Internet just seems to indicate hip issues which we know she doesn't have. Has anyone else's lo got an extra crease?

Here are a couple of pics, it's not too clear as she wouldn't stay still!

Thanks!:flower:

Lily definitely has this. She has very obvious extra creases on both thighs. I haven't thought anything of it until now either. I've been quite worried about the fact that she doesn't ever seem to straighten her legs though.... I mean she CAN do it if I force them into the position but she doesn't do it herself. I mentioned to HV that her legs are still very bent up towards her tummy, like a newborn, and she said she'll keep an eye on this for the next few weeks to see if they loosen up. X

Is it not just a start of an extra roll on their legs? My chunky little sunshine has little fat creases in his thighs.

Alex has them. His hips were checked and are fine :) it's just chubby baby. Dr. Google can be dangerous :haha:

My LO had/still has an extra crease. She was checked by the paediatric physio and had an x-ray when she was about 3 months old-she didn't have clicky hips but it was done as a precaution as she was a breech baby/delivery.
The crease is still there but she hasn't had any problems with crawling or walking.
If you are worried, I'd get it checked again just to put your mind at rest. x

ETA-Erin's was an unequal crease, rather than just an extra fat roll.

Thanks, I think I will point it out to the hv when I next take her to weigh in and see if she thinks it's worth seeing the dr for.

Seeing as she's already had a hip ultrasound I'm not really sure what else they would do anyway? When she straightens her legs out they're the same length etc which they say is another sign so that seems ok.

Hoping it's just one leg is chubbier than the other!

X

oh gosh! my lo has sooo many creases in her legs and thighs! i cant even count them! im sure shes fine!:-)

An extra crease is a sign of hip abnormalities. It is NOT a marker though. I did the U/S clinic for baby hips and maybe only 1 a list, with the extra crease, had a problem. I should add though that there were other factors too not just the crease. If you're worried see your HV or your GP. Boo has one and she's fine :D :flower:

My HV noticed my little girl had an extra crease and she had an X-ray done at 6 months which came back all clear.

My son until he was walking had 3 extra creases on one of his legs and the others didn't line up at all, it turned out to be nothing. Now he is taller, slimmer and walking he has lost most of the creases and only has one or two on each thigh and they line up. I think his maybe were caused by him being in a very odd position in the womb or something xx

We saw a specialist on this for the exact same issue a month ago. She said leg creases are a very poor indicator on hip dysplasia.

Anyway, our son has uneven leg creases and no hip probs whatsoever.

Wow, you learn something new everyday. LO has creases galore but he's also quite the chunky monkey. I remember his doctor checking his hips and remarking how strong he was so hope that was a good sign.
