I decided to post here as I know how scary it can be finding out that the hopefully natural birth you planned just isn't going to happen. I hope this helps to ease some fears.
Ryder PJ's birth story.
Hubby and I got the new last Monday at an emerg. scan that our little girl was still breech. We went to my Dr's appointment Wed. and discussed our options with him and decided C-section was the best as she was not coming out the way she was and the manual turn only has a 30% success rate. We were expecting to get a call saying that we were boked for this Wed. as they normally wait till 39 weeks, but 15 mins after leaving the Dr's office we got a call saying to be at the hospital on Friday Feb. 1rst for 7:30 am. Due to how long baby had been breech, the surgeon wanted her out ASAP to avoid any potential issues with baby. We met our amazing surgeon at 8:30 and she explained everything that was going to happen for us. I had written up a short C-section birth plan with my hopes and questions on it. She thought everything was reasonable, but due to hospital policy and not compromising the sterile feild, my husband could not cut the cord. No problem. Hubby was a shutter bug and we already had like 50 picures before we even got down to the OR. We asked if we could take pics in there and, yes we could, just not of the surgery itself. Hubby asked if a free nurse could take a few pics and several said heck yeah. (hubby had to stay by my head on a little stool the whole time and was not allowed to go to the other side of the room to the warmer where they would asses baby. There were just too many people with 3 Dr's, a resident and like 5 nurses due to baby's possition and potential problems) The atmosphere was light and the dr's and nurses joked with us while everything was started. As my surgeon was teaching a resident, I got to hear everything that was happening as it was going on in proper terms. She also explained everything that was going on and what I should feel. They had to put a lot of drugs through my Epi line as I don't freeze well and have woken during two past surgeries so I felt slight tugging and and muscle twiches, but not too much at all. As they were getting ready to take her out, my hubby was asked if he wanted to watch. Of course he did, he waited 51 years for the birth of his daughter. He was asked to stand up so he could see over the curtain and was amazed as they brought our little girls out, first feet, then bum, then everything else. she was moving around before they even got her out and let out the most amazing scream I've ever heard. They brought her the the assesment area and a paedeatrition two nurses looked her over to make sure her little hips and everything else were OK. They were very careful though to let me see her at all times and gave a big thumbs up that she was doing great. A nurse grabbed our camera from my hubby and took a bunch of close ups of our daughter for us. Normally this is where my hospital will bring Daddy and baby upstairs to the labor and delivery ward as they don't allow them to sick around while mom is being stitched up. This is when the miricle happened. They brought our daughter over and handed her to daddy, then had him hold her on my chest/shoulder so I could talk to her and kiss her while they finnished up everything with me and as I was being brought to recovery, hubby and baby went upstairs for tummy time on the ward. ( the nuses on labor and del. later told me that in the 20 years my OB has been delivering babies, she has NEVER done this before). I waited my 1/2 hour with the nuses distracting me and was upstairs before I knew it. They brought me past the room where hubby and baby were so I could see them and say hi before they brought me to my room and assessed me. It was quite a while before the epi wore off so was in a pain free bliss with baby chest to chest for quite a while before I was even a little uncomfortable. I didn't even need to ask for meds the first day, they just gave them automatically. When the OB(surgeon) saw me the next day she told me that in all her years, she has seen many dads, all kinds. The good the bad and the ugly, but with a tear in her eye she said she's never seen one as special as my hubby. She also made sure she let me know that as soon as I was gone he told them all how proud of me he was (he forgot to tell me this though, lol)
