Haha! Glad I'm not the only on, then! I kept seeing all these threads where people's OH's had opinions. When hubby got the baby name books out during my last labour, I told him he could name the bloody baby (not my best moment!!). He still kept interrupting my contractions to ask "Do you prefer xxxxxx or %%%%%?"
It's a good thing he has other redeeming qualities!!
The thing is we have lots of criteria when choosing names, and five kids already, so we've used lots of the ones we like! It has to be pronounced the same way with an American or a British accent (he's American, I'm British). We have a long last name that you always have to spell, so no first names that require a "How do you spell that?" We live overseas so we prefer names that are easily pronounced by other cultures or a bit international in flavour. It can't be too "American" sounding, either, and he vetoes loads of great boy names for sounding too "British". Lots of comments about being beaten up on the playground.
Honestly, it's a miracle we've ever named any of our kids at all, and our third was, in fact, three weeks old before she had a name (and she was born over two weeks late, so we had no excuse, really). Her birth certificate says "Name Changed By Parents" because until we got it all sorted out she had been registered as Blank Blank OurLastName. It's bad, girls!
