Little back story- I'm a type 2 diabetic who is usually tablet controlled but I was on insulin during pregnancy. It was decided to induce me at 38 weeks for baby's safety. Before my induction I tried rlt, epo, sex and ball bouncing to prepare!

I went in for induction at 1.30PM on the 17th Jan. I was taken to a ward and the midwife put me on the monitor for 30 mins to see how bubs was doing and then she checked to see how my cervix was. I was 1cm dilated, thinner then she expected so she could reach babies head. She inserted the prostin tablet and left me on the monitor for another 30 mins. I was then able to move around, bounce on a ball for 6hrs until it was time to check again. I didn't feel any tightening or contractions so wasn't expecting any change.

After 6hrs there was very little change so they inserted another tablet and left me overnight. I was feeling cramps and had a bloody show so I was hoping for some progression but no such luck! I was still on 1cm so they took me to a delivery room so a doctor could break my waters. I was given gas and air for this thankfully!! I was then given two hrs to see if anything happened.

After two hrs I still wasn't contracting so they attached the syntocinon drip. After 8hrs of the drip and barely feeling any contractions (causing the Dr to joke I had a secret epi lol!) I was only 2cm so they decided to take me for an emcs.

I actually found the emcs surprisingly relaxing after the induction process! They wheeled me to theatre and put another drip in my arm and attached me to a BP monitor and then they had me sit up to put in the spinal. I was then sprayed with a cold liquid to check I was numb and they started the section. The pressure to me felt like my baby was just moving really strongly inside. Baby was out really quickly and taken to be dried off and apgar score done which was 9 :-) he was then shown to me and given to his daddy for a cuddle. I was so mesmerized by him it felt like the stitching up took seconds!

All in almost it was a rough few days and I'll be seriously considering whether to try induction or go for an elective next time, I was so exhausted trying to look after my baby after that. My section was at 10PM and they made my oh leave around 1am so I was left to look after baby before I could get any sleep.

I felt surprisingly healthy after the section. I got up 12 hrs afterwards and had a shower and only used paracetamol for the first week a couple of times a day.

Flynn is worth every second though <3

Congratulations on your baby boy! And thank you for your story. I have a friend who's sister is immune to induction drugs. With her first baby she was late. They tried to induce three times which all failed. Apparently her body didn't have the right hormones (?) to start contracting or to respond to the inductions drugs. She had a cs for both her little ones. Maybe you have a similar condition?

Congratulations! I had a similar failed induction, take care with you c section recovery
