Well I went into hospital on the 1st August to be induced, got the 1st pessary right away, started cramping and bachache very quickly, but had no progress with cervix, later on that night I received the 2nd pessary, started having regular and strong contractions but on examination still no progress so they gave me an injection of morphine to help me sleep and the contractions eventually slowed and wore off, the next day I got the 3rd pessary and let me tell you it was horrendous pain every time another pessary went in due to them drying me right out!! Nothing happened at all with 3rd pessary no pain contractions nothing, I got the 4th pessary later on that night and the contractions started within 5 mins, so was bouncing on ball with gas and air and eventually moved to the bath, they called my husband and told him I was in quick labour going by the trace they had on me, I started getting the feeling that I wanted to push when I was in the bath and they got me out and examined me, no progress whatsoever, I was devasted!!! so I got another injection to make me sleep. I woke up and the doctor was there to examine me and low and behold 3 days later I was 2cm dilated so she said she could break my waters later that day which turned into about 8pm by the time they took me to l&d ward, they examined me was still 2cm and they forced to break my water which was horrendous as I really wasn't dilated enough. I waited an hour and was having contractions but nothing strong and still no progress so the started the pitocin. The contractions were coming very frequent and very strong as the midwife kept commenting on them and the frequency kept getting turned up as I still wasnt dilating, they eventually doubled the dose of pitocin and put the frequency up to max and I was screaming as I only had gas and air but was willing to work through it until they examined me which was 12 hours later and I had only dilated another 1 and a quarter cm so the midwife said I really should take the epidural as I was in so much pain and exhausted, the epidural was amazing, the doctor came back and was going to let me continue on, but the midwife disagreed and was put in her place by him, he said he was phoning my consultant for another patient and would mention me, the midwife was panicking as baby's heartbeat was dipping extremely low with each contraction. My consultant said I was to have an immediate c-section and I was taken away within about 5 minutes, they had to give me a sedative too as I was violently shaking continously at this point, so 4 days later at 08.56am 4th August the day before my birthday, James Robert Wilson entered the world and my life weighing 8lb 4oz and 21cm long and it the most beautiful little guy I have ever seen :cloud9:

awww you poor thing what a story and awful you went through that but your son is just soo perfect

Wow you deserve a medal or something ... but a beautiful baby is a good prize for all that ;)

I had a very similar experience with my 2nd baby and on day 3 and 3rd attempt at the pessary i was 1cm and they broke my water like you, luckily that worked and i had her within 2 hours, I can't imagine doing everything else you then had to do too.... i'm in awe! xxxxx

Thanks very much, it was extremely hard at the time and I must admit I did think I will never do this again and my hubby who wanted more kids was like you are never going through that ever again, but now that I have him I would do it all again in a heartbeat for him and would still consider having another at some point, but they told me I would be consultant led again and would have the option of a c-section immediately if I wished but there is no reason to believe it would happen twice so fingers crossed xxx
