Hi all just got the letter stating I had failed the fasting part of the gtt got an appointment on Thursday at hospital I rang up and the lady told me my fasting level was 6.1 and it should of been lower didn't mention my blood after the 2 hour test tbh I forgot to ask so does this mean I have it ? Tbh I thought I did anyway but really unsure of what I need to ask ect at the diabetes appointment I havevread about inductions being needed ect is this the case with everyone ?

Theres a 3 hour test you may have to do. You can control it with diet most of the time. I would make a list to bring with you of any questions you come up with. I'm not sure if everyone with GD needs to be induced, hopefully someone else will come along that knows :flower:

I just wanted to say, I failed that test too when I was pregnant.

At my appointment they explained it all to me, then gave me blood testing equipment (finger pricking) to take home and I had to record what I was eating, all the while improving it, as well as testing my sugar levels 6 times a day.

I went back in a week later and because my levels were still high, I had to go on insulin. This started at 2units in the morning and 2 at night. It increased the further I got, and when I gave birth i was on 28units morning and night. But once baby was born i no longer had to take the insulin. Then you just have a blood test at 6 weeks after bith to see if it has all settled down. (I never went for mine!)

I had to have an induction at 38 weeks due to GD. However, i was never told this until I was 34 weeks. i should have been told at my second appointment when they put me on insulin, so at 29 weeks.

So all I would say is make sure you ask about this. I wasnt aware it happened, so when I got told, I burst into tears at the hospital, I felt like a right idiot.

Can I just say, i had a natural vaginal delivery, with just Gas and Air for 30mins. I was told i'd need everything going becuase of my size, which wasnt the case. So strive for the delivery you want.

I hope it all goes okay for you.

Thanks Hun I have been testing as my son has type 1 so thought I would start as soon as I was told. before meals I was 5.9 2 hours after I was 7.4 I have written everything down to take with me tomorrow this morning I was only 4.9 so hopefully everything is ok x

I just got my results yesturday and they said mine was 9.1 after fasting and at the 2 hour mark of the test :S I had my appointment today and they gave me my pin pricking kit. Havent had to use it yet, got another 20 minutes :S

I got my kit today too I had been checking anyway as my sons diabetic so took my readings with me over the last couple of days there was a few they weren't happy with but all in all went well hope ur feeling ok with it all it's all a bit daunting isn't it lol

Yeah Im still freaking out and I wasnt liking that fact that Id be pricking myself half a dozen times a day but I used it and surprisinly I didnt feel it at all :D
I did have to do it a few times the first time because no blood was coming out and then I realised I wasn't rubbing my finger the right way to get the blood out :S

I just wish I could have had one normal and straight forward pregnancy before I had any complications and hiccups like this. I mean Im only just getting the hang of being pregnant and soon being a mum and now I have to get used to having GD as well. Its a hand full
