Hi there,

Probably another silly question but for those who's FOBs aren't involved with their kids what happens around Father's Day? My kids are at nursery and I know they usually get them to make cards for things like that but I don't want my dd being confused by making a card for "daddy" who she's not seen in months now. Do any of you speak to nursery about this or just let them make the card? Do you think it would upset my 2 yo if nursery talk to her about her daddy when she hasn't seen him since Christmas? Plus she won't be able to see her dad to give him the card.

Any experiences of this?

TIA

Sorry I also realise it's the same for any single dads who's kids don't see their mum on Mother's Day so his question is for any parent in this situation not just mums.

I would prob the give the nursery/school a heads-up.

I think they usually suggest the kid makes the card for another significant male family member. Granddad, Uncle or even for Mum if no males available (and visa versa for single dads).

Yeah Id talk to the nursery. My oh died, so it's a different situation. But I spoke to them and said I didn't want zane upset, so he just made a card for my mums husband, or if ur lo doesn't have a granddad then they could make a card for u.

Thanks ladies I think I'll just mention it next time I'm there.

My son didn't make a Father's Day card last year but the nursery are aware (they had a booklet for us to fill in at the start of the year all about our family). I didn't receive a Mother's Day card from the nursery either so I'm not sure if it's something my sons nursery do. :hugs:

Ah now that's a good idea about a book for info on the family I wish my nursery did that Teal. I keep forgetting to mention it to them but will ask about it tomorrow. I think I'll ask if they can make a card for my dad instead coz we currently share a house with my parents so they see him a lot.

I asked nursery and they said they don't do cards that say to dad or daddy anyway they do ones that say to someone special because they know there are lots of different family structures these days so don't want to confuse kids which is good
