I am currently expecting a baby boy in May. When I was a teenager I read a novel and the male character's name was Jamison. Well I loved the name for years, but it wasn't until this past summer (a few months before I got pregnant) that I found out that is the name of some kind of whiskey. Now I feel like I am going to be criticized and asked if I named my kid after the alcohol. It bothers me that the name has to have a negative connotation when it's something I never knew existed until recently. Any opinions or similar situations?

I read the name and didn't think of the whiskey brand until you mentioned it. My opinion is if you like the name, use it. We had the name Lincoln picked out for DS1 and everybody else's opinion ruined it for us so we ended up naming him Luca instead. Needless to say that we both still love the name we'd originally picked out!

Also, I'm pretty sure the spelling of the whiskey brand is Jameson, not Jamison so you could always point that out if anybody mentions it :) xx

The brand of whiskey is Jameson.

I like the name Jamison. I'm sure no one will be negative towards it. It's not like you're naming him whiskey or beer, it just happens to be similar to a brand of whiskey.

I like that name. And I do not think of Whisky I think dashing man .

I found if you tell no one before your baby is born that helps as people will tear it apart. Well not nice people, and there are a lot of them. I told no one till I was out of the hospital second and third time. There was less comments then. When you are preg and people tear names down it will tarnish the name you choose possibly. I found that. Just say you dont know and grin when they suggest names.

I agree with the others, I like the name and I didn't think of the whiskey until you mentioned it. Don't tell people your name choices until the baby is born, most people keep their opinions to themselves at that point.

I really like the name and did not think of Whiskey! I agree with the other ladies about keeping the name quiet. With our first we kept the name quiet and announced it when he was born and never had one negative comment. With our second we told people and were met with such negativity about it :-( This is our third and final baby girl and I know her name and am confident I love it so told people and had a few negative comments but not as bad with number two. First experience was best when we decided and told people when he was born! It's hard enough just getting yourself and oh to agree sometimes let alone family and friends lol!

We wanted to call our daughter Stella but my partner is a barman and everyone called her Stella Artois... We called her Paige

Its a lovely name, and to be honest most people wont know its the name of a whiskey. I would go for it :) xxx

Jamison is a great name I wouldn't let it bother you if you love it x

I told my mum I was calling one of my sons Constantine and she hit the roof. I wasnt going too I just wanted to annoy her. Tell them names you would never use. Its fun to watch the reactions.

I think it's a great name, I didn't know it was a brand of whiskey.

To PP: my youngest son is Lincoln Maxwell and I get sooo many compliments on his name. Even the doctor at the hospital said "that's like, a really really great name. Super name" :D

Such a great name! I'm gutted we didn't use it, and a little jealous that you did haha. We'd narrowed it down to either Lincoln Joseph or Lincoln Maxwell. Our taste in boy names must be pretty similar

Thank you everyone for the encouraging words! I think I'm going to stick with the name, and will be taking the advice on not announcing the name till baby is here :)

I wouldn't be bothered by that at all.. My name's Brandi I get "like the liquor" or comments about the looking Glass song and they never bothered me.. I know two boys named Jameson.. So that was my first connection.

That's my maiden name (well mine has an 'e' in it) so I think it's great! :winkwink:

I know 3 boys called Bailey... And no one has mentioned 'baileys the creamy alcohol'
The name is lovely don't worry about anyone else or what they might say, he's ur child but I'm pretty sure no one will associate the name with the 'whisky'
Xxx

I'm pretty familiar with the brand and didn't think of it either until you said. It's a lovely name

I agree with everyone else, it's not something I thought of when I first read it. If you really like it then I would stick with it :)

I done that with one of mine, I told her we was gonna call her pixie, it wasn't that I even really disliked the name just thought that she would have something to say about it, she had spent ages saying how much she disliked one of my other daughters name whilst pregnant etc etc. It backfired though when she actually said she liked the name :dohh:
