I went on the hospital tour today of the birth centre and they said they didn't allow formula and made it sound like i was going to be forced to breastfeed!???

I was planning to put bubba on the breast directly after birth & for a couple of days along with the bottle & then after 3 days when my milk 'comes in' and i can express effectively exclusively bottle feed using formula & expressed milk.

Do you think I could bring cartons & ask for sterilised bottles?

I want her to use both bottle and brest for those few days as I don't want her to reject the bottle when i use it exclusively after 3 days.

I have bought tommee tippee close to nature bottles ready.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

im confused by the bit where they dont allow formula?

i ff from the start and am buggered if i would have been forced into bf

is there an option of diff hosp? i would seriously consider it, its not up to the hospital to decide you are not going to ff - god i would be raging if i was told this

Sorry to butt in, but which hospital is this????
I ff my first 3 dd's and I am certainly ff peanut when he arrives! I would seriously consider putting in a complaint as I feel that's a form of discrimination!

With my first 3 dd's, the hospital supplied the little bottles of formula for us to use until we went home, but maybe this has changed now.

Hope you get something sorted hun xxxxxx :hugs:

In boots and mothercare you can buy a box of 100ml sma filled glass bottles with sterilized teats, maybe you could buy a box and put a few in your bag if you are worried. Alternatively buy some steribottles and a couple of cartons of milk. Sorry to hear your hospital are being so judgemental, I wouldn't be happy either as I plan to bottle feed. xxx

Our hospital was the same. They starved my baby as they promote breastfeeding! He didnt have any milk for 18 hrs, & I didnt have any milk to feed him & he couldnt latch on!.

They didnt even give him a bottle afterward, just 2 oz out of a sringe!

The ready made bottles is a good idea. Good luck xx

I am thinking maybe I misheard her!

It was a quick question and answer thing at the end of the tour yesterday.

I was thinking I might ring the maternity helpline and ask as I'm freaking out! I didn;t mind doing the first feed right after birth and i did plan to mix the bottle with breast for the first 3 days so bubba gets the most high calorie nutrients etc but wanted to mix right away so that she gets used to both as after those first few days i want to exclusively bottle feed and use expressed milk where possible.

I just can't breast feed!

Sorry girls, thanks for your replies xxx

I called the maternity helpline and they were much nicer and not scary and she said that they WOULD provide me with formula. I am going to get some of those steribottles and cartons of formulas in case though, just for my peace of mind.

Thanks for your help while I was panicking!

thats just disgusting. poor Omar - he must have been starving!

i had no milk with either of my babies until about 10 days after they were born due to a certain drug i was on (delays milk coming through and very little when it comes through) so my children would have died basically if not bottlefed.

just terrible - if anything, it puts women OFF breastfeeding.

That is awful! I'm glad he is doing well now hun x

Hiya hun,

I went to a birth centre (all natural, promote everything holistic) and even they didn't object to me FF from birth. You probably wont need the bottles and cartons (I took them with me just in case for peace of mind) as they should provide the glass bottles for you (grab a few extra if you can as they come in blooming handy! lol).

I'm glad the hotline were a bit more friendly. Maybe you just got a bit of an over-zealous guide. I must admit there were a couple of scary midwives who did try to get me to BF but they can't force you to do/not do anything that you don't want to. Hope it goes well hun xx

I am feeling a lot better about it now. I am just getting fed up. I'm a grown woman and shouldn't have to go into a full on historical breakdown of my life & previous experiences everytime I say I want to bottle feed! people are just peeing me off!
