Grace has been really good at feeding from the minute she was born in terms of rooting and latching and I was told to try and feed no more than every 4 hours or on demand. When she's on the boob she feeds between 10-30 minutes but today and most of last night she's was making sucking noises and looking for my boob but as soon as she finds it she looks disinterested as she is too tired. Is it normal for her to not wake up for a feed because she's sleepy? I'm worried she isn't waking because she doesn't have the energy even though she is hungry

The first two weeks babies sleep a whole lot...as if they are in a coma.Dont worry, the colostrum in your milk is very concentrated and rich.A little goes a long way.Soon she will be waking up every hour sucking you dry!haha.Enjoy the early days while you can and get some well deserved rest.

I agree totally with Karen, make the most of her sleep to grab a few zzz's for yourself lol. I also wouldn't be too worried about trying to feed a booby baby every 4 hrs, some days she may seem to be on there every 20 mins and others she may go the 4 hrs, best to play it by ear for a while, gorgeous avatar by the way.

I also tried that schedule feeding thing and it just made me more stressed out. Feeding on-demand is working out much better for me and he has also gained weight a lot faster....

Whatever you do don't switch to a bottle! I did that and now she has trouble latching. Has your midwife come and weighed her? they can tell if Grace is getting enough food.

My LO falls asleep a lot during feedings. I try to make him cold (as the doctor told me to) by blowing on his bare legs, having a ceiling fan going while feeding and just having him in a onesie. I have also tried a cold rag to keep him awake. If he just keeps sleeping after many attempts, I take advantage of a much needed nap and try again later. I wake him up every 2-3 hours. Our pediatrician told us that he needs to gain weight so we are really trying. I keep crib notes (times of feedings and if he had a wet or poopy diaper). This way, the pediatrician can tell me if I am doing something wrong. I am a first time mommy so everything is very new to me and advice is always appreciated. Good luck to you hun.

So very true. Both my babies slept a lot during the first weeks and after that, it was as if I couldn't do anything as they fed so much that I felt like I constantly had my boobs out all the time.
