Since stopping Hannahs formula top ups last wed we had 2 great days then she seemed to become starving! She has fed constantly since Sat and we are both exhausted. Her poop and wee were normal poop was yellow with bits. But last night it was explosive, bubbly and brown. I'm afraid we are slipping back when my supply was low and she was starving. I know have the milk there for her as I can still hand express some when she falls away.

I am not getting her weighed again until Friday so I can compare weights using the same scales.

Any ideas what's going on ladies??

This might help x

Breastfed babies poo out what they don't need, everything in breast milk is used by the baby to grow. If your baby only poos once a week or more (Two weeks they can sometimes not poo for), that is because they are using all your milk to grow, That is normal. On the other hand you could have a baby like mine that seems too just poo and poo, and they are big too!! This does not mean you are feeding your little one too much it could mean they have just had a growth spurt or in summer babies drink more or could mean you have high quality breast milk (i like the last one !!)

It can be runny or thick it can be dark brown or light brown, Most of the time it is normal. If baby's poo suddenly starts to smell (not solids or food smell) Then a check up might be in order, Also if baby is doing runny poos and not weeing much also go see a doctor as baby's dehydrated very quickly. Green poo is too OK, green means that it is not staying in the tummy long and is being digested very quickly (not broccoli or spinach poo) This can go on for 48 hours with out worrying too much.

Was it def brown? Ellis had a couple of nappies which were bubbly and explosive but green/khaki-these occurred when she was going through a fussy time and i wasn't keeping track of which breast she'd been on last and as a result she was getting too much fore milk. Fore milk is high in lactose, its not a problem once in a while but make sure baby is draining each breast and getting to the calorie rich hind milk.
If it was def brown then i have no idea but try not to worry about your supply, relax, have lots of skin to skin and eat/drink plenty and your body will take care of it.

It was still yellowish brwn but mucussy. She has been on and off but I try to give her 2hrs on each boob to make sure she is getting the hindmilk. Is this enough?

Not for 2 hrs, I wish. Yesterday she fed for 8 hrs from 3.15pm until 11.20pm. I just kept switching from to the other every 2 hrs so that the other one has a chance to recoup a little milk!!

My boobs only ever have enough after about 6 hrs though so it would ideal if I could get 3 hours between for each boob but I'm not that lucky.

I have her in her Moby wrap right now and she is sleeping, as usual in this. It's heaven :happydance:

Are you sure she's actually feeding? It may be that alot of the time she is comfort sucking rather than actual feeding-which may be why she's not gaining the weight... Ellis tends to do this but in an evening when she's just wanting to prolong the cuddles but i don't think i could deal with her being on my breast 8 hrs a day. Do you have a local bf support group/community mothers who could come out and see if she is feeding or if she's being a wee bit lazy -that way they can hopefully give you tips to encourage her to feed better. I have to say i admire you v v much, you must be determined to bf if you are dealing with that but i think there must be an easier approach for you both. Good luck and keep up the incredible work!
