My LO is 10 days old and formula feeding.

She's taking 60ml every 2.5/3hrs, sometimes with a 30ml snack feed inbetween. Today my MW said this is no where near enough and she should be having 90ml every 3 hours and to move to the Size 2 teats as she may be getting too tired sucking from the size 1's

I planned on trying this today but she was crying for a feed after 2 hours and even with the new teats would only take 40ml.

The MW already made me feel bad by making it sound like I'm under feeding her and now LO won't take the 90ml

What am I supposed to do? I can't force feed her :(

Your LO will have as much as she needs. My LO wasn't having 90ml till about 12/13 weeks. 60ml for 10 days old sounds perfect to me, every baby is different. As for the number 2 teats I can't believe a midwife would tell a 10 day old baby would need this I would defiantly stick to number 1s for now.

Go with wha your baby needs Hun ignor what people say she 'should' be having every baby is different. Your doing fine Hun :)

If your baby is gaining weight and is having enough wet/dirty nappies then you are fine! Every baby is different and there is no 'correct' amount you should be giving.

So long as your baby is healthy them I would ignore the advice you were given and just continue following your babies natural feeding patterns.

Giving a newborn a size 2 teat (unless for special thicker milk) will make her gulp milk and air and give the poor thing wind. As I've said in your other thread you sound like you're doing the right thing just keep going the way you are!

Sorry I meant to post one of the threads in baby club.

I gave her 1 bottle with a size 2 teat and she did eventually drink 90ml, but then promptly threw a lot of it back up.

She also has had really bad wind all afternoon, so much so that she's literally only just fallen asleep for the first time all afternoon.

I'm so mad at how the MW made me feel this morning, I'm a FTM and she basically told me that what I was doing was wrong and made me feel like I was under feeding my baby. I've spent a lot of this afternoon in tears over it (bloody hormones)

I see the health visitor for the first time tomorrow so I'll see what she says but I may also complain about the MW when I see them again on Friday.

This makes me so mad! You were doing exactly the right thing before so keep doing that I'm so sorry she upset you.

Sorry your MW was so mean :( sounds like a good amount to me! My LO was on about 60ml roughly at that stage and when he went to 90 by around 3 weeks they said we were over feeding  guess it depends who you speak to. Do what feels right, as pp said babies will take what they need, someone told me to always make sure there is extra in the bottle as they should never drain the bottle but other than that go with baby

Also with the bringing up the feed could it be the teat is too fast? Hope I don't confuse the issue saying this, it's just I tried to switch DS up to size three last week and he did the same thing so I put him back to size two till yesterday when he fed well on the size three I think he just wasn't ready yet. Could be wrong I'm a FTM too :flower:
