My little one is having very erratic feeds the past few days. Very fussy during feeds and not taking much. Today so far hes had 3.5 ozs at 7.30. 3oz at 10.30 and at 13.45 only 2 ounces. This isnt really like him, hed usually take minimum 4 oz at each feed and we are also finding that he tends to take most of his feed at tea time, bedtime and dream feed where he might have 5 or 6oz at these times.

He is also getting a breastfeed once in the night around 3am as ive gradually been moving to formula. Im now wondering if he shoudl drop the 3am feed? Would it be normal for a formula fed baby at 4 months to no longer need a nighttime feed?

He has started teething and his gums are giving him frustration, he sometimes just knaws on the teat before moving his head and fussing away from the bottle. Anyone else experiencing this?

Hi, yes I'm having this at the moment. My LO is 4.5 months and dropped from 6-7oz each feed to only 2oz on some of them. He was very upset and trying to feed but then pushing the bottle away. He has also started teething and I think this is the problem. I tried rubbing some teething gel on his gums just before the feed if he is very fussy and at it's worst (one night spending 1hour to get him to drink 1oz and him screaming with frustration) gave him some calpol. It seemed to work and only lasted a couple of days, he is feeding ok again now. My LO has been formula fed since 5 weeks and does not have anything between 10pm and 6.30am he drinks about 30oz during the day. I hope this helps.

Lucie is the same not interested in her bottles through the day and then takes two big bottle in the evening 7-8 oz at 7 and a 6 oz dreamfeed. Sometimes she takes more in the evening than she does all day.

I think the heat may also be making him more irritable also. Ive been using ashton and parsons when hes chomping away with frustration on his fingers. To think that this is him just beginning teething, oh dear.

I would agree that it may very well be teething. Sometimes Mika (who usually takes an 8 oz bottle) will only take 3 or 4 and then start screaming. Using some teething gel usually helps.

As for not needing a night feed...Mika sleeps from 7 to 7 with no night feed and has been doing it for well over a month now. He eats about ever 3 hours during the day, but in the evening has a bottle about 4:30 or 5, another about 6 or 6:30, and on some nights another bottle about 7. All of his evening bottles are at least 7 oz. He usually eats about 40-48 oz a day.

Thats very similar to George, feeds roughly every 3-3.5 hours, gets a dinnertime bottle about 4.30/5pm, bedtime bottle at 6.30pm then dreamfeed at 10/10.30pm. Today he has eaten very little, only 9ozs, though has now just guzzled 7ozs in one go and no doubt will have 5 or 6ozs at the dream feed. I may attempt to not feed him in the night at all and see if this shifts his pattern to eating more in the daytime to sustain him.

Would also be nice to not have to get up in the nightime, wishful thinking I know! :-)

Anna dropped her night feed around 3 months and has slept through 11pm-9am since then- and she only takes 5 bottles of 5 oz a day -at 3 months and still the same amount now at 6 months! I am sure LO is getting plenty:flower:
