feeds at night really close together

hey everyone. atm the twins are waking up every two hours in the night for a feed. is this ok? when they have formula they sleep for at least 4 hours. am i feeding them ok, they feed for normally around half an hour or longer and its hard keeping them awake. just wondering how come they seem more satisfied on formula. my cousin said her mw suggested one formula feed at night as her lo was feeding all night till about 3 months old. it doesnt bother me at all feeding them every two hours but im just worried they arent getting enough from my milk to satisfy them. they latch on and feed really well and i love feeding them but so worried they arent getting enough from my milk!

They will be getting plenty hun. They need little and often at this point.

Also BM takes around 2 hours to digest as although it has a higher calorie content to formula, because it's designed specifically for our digestive systems and changes to suit the baby's specific needs according to their age and even during the feed. FF just takes longer to digest which means it sometimes has what can be a welcomed side effect of longer periods of sleep because it sits heavier in their tums.

All sounds normal - dont doubt yourself now girl!! If they are having wet nappies that's the key.

thanks a lot merv's mum. they having plenty of wet nappies and dirty nappies. they have a really long sleep during the day and are up all throught the night lol. they will feed for 10 minutes and fall asleep and as soon as they are laid down they wake up for more. bless em, i love feeding them though so im not too bothered about the 2 hourly feed thing. only thing is im not very good at bf discreetly lol so i take ebm out with us, like today when we went to register them thanks again for replying, im such a worrier x

It takes a baby 10 mins to work out if they are full or not so what you describe is normal. If you would really like to be able to BF out and about I suggest 'practising' feeding under a pashmina or cover of some sort while at home

My twins did cluster feeding at night, where they'd feed frequently together, shorter than 2 hours apart. I totally echo what Mervs mom said about Breast milk vs formula and the digestion.

thanks. they were weighed tuesday and aimee has gone from 5lb13 to 5lb4 and phoebe went from 5lb10 to 5lb1. the mw said that that is fine and they are right on the borderline for 10% which is normal in the first week. i just hope their weight picks up a bit, they are being weighed again tomorrow. what will happen if they lose more weight, i dont want to stop bf!

congrats on feeding twins. how long is their long sleep? my LO lost her full 10% and the midwife recommended waking her every 3 hours to feed. this helped her weight gain, then when she had got her birth weight back, i let her dictate when she wanted feeding. I wouldnt let them go more than 4 or 5 hours without a feed. This will also have the benefit of them recognising day from night. Yes i know its early, but i made sure LO had night feeds in dark and quiet, and now at 3 months she sleeps through from 9pm til 7am. You are a superstar for feeding twins, I know its magical now, but feeding through the night does make you very tired so you need to make sure they get enough during the day.

hi they do have a long sleep during the day which can be about 4 or 5 hours. they are being weighed again on tues, i thought it was today lol is it likely they would've gained much weight in just a week?
