My hubby has just rang me to ask if I had left our 20 month old son Jack in the car while I went shopping! I was horrified and rang him to say never.....turns out that a couple of weeks ago I was going to visit my sister-in-law and was having one of them mornings when he didnt want to sit in his car seat, I finally got him in and strapped in, I needed to stop at the shop to get some flowers, I literally ran in and grabbed them, when I was leaving the shop I bumped into one of my hubbys relatives, I said to her I couldnt stop as I had Jack in the car. She decided however to ring my MIL and tell her that I left Jack in the car while I went shopping!! OH is now mad at me and says I should never leave him in the car, he doesnt do it even when he gets petrol! I feel like a bad mum now!!

Has anyone else done this before??

i don't drive yet so haven't left morgan in the car but my OH has if she is sleeping and he needs to pay for petrol
he says he can see the car the whole time and he locks the doors and is away for 2minutes
your not the only parent to do it x

your not supposed to have under 16's out on a petrol station forecourt caus of the danger if you check the signs. dont freak out ive nipped into the shop when the kids have been in the car right outside , i always stay in sight of the car as much as possible

..not to make you feel bad, but this is one of my BIG BIG no noes! .. we never leave Luke in the car..not even to go back into out own house to get a coat we forgot :/ i know that seems a bit over the top.. but out car is parked on the main road cos we don't have a drive.. don't beat ure self up tho, we all have off days or do things and think SHIT ! afterwards your only human tho :) its not like u left him in the car whilst u sat in ure local pub getting drunk lol x :) x

Thanks for your replies...

I do normally leave him in the car when I get petrol. I usually try to use the pay at the pump ones tho. If I cant I lock the car and make sure that I can see it at all times. I just feel bad and now my mother in law now has a reason to hate me even more and make me feel bad! I would never normally do this but I think Im more upset that she has rang her to tell her that Im basically neglecting my child!

x

dont beat urself up hun..i only do it when i go in to pay for petrol..i can see the car the whole time the doors are locked and i dont take my eyes off them..and am in and out very quickly..if there is a long line or delay i will take them in..sounds like u were gone for a second..i know they say dont ever do it but u wouldnt have done it if u didnt think he was completely safe!obviously i would never ever ever leave my kids in the car to do shopping!just like u have said u wouldnt!

agree with this :thumbup::flower:

I dont think i'd of gone into a shop and left him, but I do pay for petrol and leave him in the car, and I run back into my house 2 get stuff sometimes as well. But at the end of the day no harm done and its a bit ott that your relative felt the need to tell on you, bit werid lol xx

it's not something I do and must admit I don't like to hear of people doing it :(

I certainly don't think it makes you a "bad mum" though, just for me I'd rather take my child in as so so paranoid that someone could take her in the few seconds I left her.

My hubby would go mental too. I do however think the woman was wrong in telling on you :(

Slap my wrists. I leave Max when I pay for petrol and had I been in your situation, I prob would have left him in the car to get the flowers too. Me bad. Shoot me

You are not a bad mum. I have done this too hon, we live in a little village and as long as I can park right at the door then I have popped into the post office or such. TBH the main problem I have with this post is your hubby ringing you to tell you off! Couldn't he wait till he got home to talk to you about it? :hugs:

i leave willow in the car when paying for petrol as long as im at one of the nearest pumps to shop.

i wouldnt leave her on any other circumstance.
too risky for me
xx

TBH I have left Jay for a min or two to run in the shops, I make sure car's locked and he's in my sight :flower:

xx

Me too

I am paranoid though my mums friend popped into the shop leaving her 3yr old in the car and someone stole the car! luckly the 3rd old was half climbing out the car so they helped him out but not so nicely car was found burnt out 3 miles away so im always really paranoid was a few years ago but still can happen

I wouldnt say your a bad mum though i probably do loads of things you wouldnt dream of

I would never leave my lo in the car alone, not even for a sec I'd be too scared.

Most of us probably have days where we do things that other people would shake their heads at though! Doesn't make us bad Mum's :)
