We have only been trying since March so not long really in the scheme of things. But I just have a really sinking feeling recently that it isn't going to happen. I am lucky to have a beautiful toddler who is the light of my life but it just seems that all of my friends who had babies at the same time are either pregnant or have a second already - both people I know in real life and on B&B. I know that I got pregnant before so the chances are that it will happen again, but my cycle has changed so much since the pregnancy that it just makes me worry that something is wrong.

Anyway, I know lots of people here have been trying for longer than me and I'm honestly not complaining about it taking a few months, but I just wish I could shake this pessimistic feeling. Not really expecting answers, just feeling a bit down about it and wanted to get it out somewhere.

We all get to that point every now and again. :hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

Polaris - have you been to the GP? As you are over 35 and been trying for 6 months you should make an appt. They can do some blood tests (CD3 and CD21) and also refer your partner for a semen analysis. They should also refer you to a fertility clinic. It could be something very simple that they can fix and they will also do a scan to make sure everything looks okay (i've been through all this recently). You might just need some clomid (for example) to help regulate your ovulation. xx

Thanks PM, I have actually been thinking that I should do this but I really hate the thought of it at the same time. However maybe clomid might help as my cycles are so long at the moment. I hope all your results were good.

Thanks everyone for the hugs.

Hang in there Polaris. I know how you feel dear. It can get very discouraging after just 1-2 months of trying. When we are young we are always told not to have sex or we will get pregnant and then when we want too it's a little harder than that. I agree that you should get to the obgyn since it has been over 6 months. Good luck to you, and know that you are not alone.

I really do understand how you feel :hugs::hugs: We have been trying for about 18 months now - I'm 39 in January....I won't give up though!

Some days I think it'll never happen and I feel useless as a woman (as hubby has 2 children with his ex) - but I'm not, it's just not happened ..... yet!

i know sometimes it feels hard to stay focused and positive, but I am sure it helps - more :hugs::hugs: your way xxxx

:hugs: Polaris. I agree with the other ladies that getting checked out is a good idea. FX'd for your :bfp:!

:hugs:

I know exactly how you feel hun. We were both on BnB at the same time in 2009. Although its not as long as a lot of people on here i still feel like ttc#2 is taking an eternity. Like you everyone around me seems to be PG, especially those that i met after having DS at playgroups etc.

Dont think this is my month either as i am just not feeling it.

Hope we both get our BFPs soon. :dust:

We are all in that boat hun!!!!! Well lots of us anyway. TTC is not easy on many people. Yes you should go to the doc and make sure everything is in working order. Try to stay positive and vent here as often as you need. It's not always an easy journey.

Thanks everyone.
I think I am having another anovulatory cycle this month so I am definitely going to make a doctor's appointment for next week, I'll try to get an appointment for Thursday as I'm not in work. Feeling very upset about it but I guess it is a positive move to get things checked out. I'll let you know how it goes.

Aren't women less fertile when they are breastfeeding? I Am sure you know about it maybe that is what is causes problems.

Thanks hun, you are totally right, often women don't get AF back for ages when breastfeeding and even after that it's possible to have lots of problems with short LP. I'm not breastfeeding anymore though, I just still have my milestone up. He weaned three months ago and had been down to just one feed a day for months before that. I was really hoping that my cycle would regulate once he weaned but no signs of that happening yet, maybe I do just need to give it more time.

Sometimes it does take more time than that. Be patient. Your body is still changing in the hormone dept.

Hi Polaris,

I hope you get an appt for this week and have an understanding GP at your practice? Is there one there that specialises in reproductive health? I have had several CD21 tests over the past few months, all of which were under 25 (should be over 30 to confirm ovulation) but as I have been temping and using OPKs I knew I was ovulating (but it might not have been a 'strong' ovulation IYSWIM). I then had a CD3 test and my FSH level was not good. It was 12.7 and anything over 12 is considered pre-menopausal. I'm 40 next year so to be honest I guess that's to be expected. Part of me wishes I hadn't found that out! So we are now taking his 'n' her conception vitamins which I would also recommend.

After my m/c back in May i've also been having regular accupuncture sessions and it has been amazing in regulating my cycles as they were all over the place. He brought my ovulation forward from CD20+ to CD12/14 and he would focus each week on increasing my blood flow to all the necessary areas. If you google there is lots of info on the net saying how positive acupuncutre is when TTC, I would definitely recommend it.

We were referred to the fertility clinic and DP had a SA done. They did a scan of all of my womb, uterus, ovaries etc and it all looked okay. Push your GP for a referral as they might tell you to just 'relax and keep trying' which is of no use at all! You've conceived and given birth to Thomas so your body knows what to do, it's just the right sperm meeting the right egg at the right time!

Keep us posted (message me if you want any more info, i've been doing loads of research on this the past few months). xx Have you thought about using a CBFM?

Thanks so much for the information and support. I really do appreciate it. I'm sorry that your FSH level was not good. I don't even really understand what that is so I have a lot of research to do. I am going to try and get an appointment for Thursday. My GP is generally pretty good and I hope that she will just refer me, especially given that this is my second or possibly third anovulatory cycle in the past nine months since I started charting. I've no idea what the wait would be like though or how much it would cost if I went private. It's interesting that you mention the acupuncture as I have just been reading up on it earlier on today, it is definitely something I would consider. I will definitely let you know how the appointment goes on Thursday and I'm sure I will have loads of questions over the coming months. Thanks again. :hugs:

The wait here is 4-6 months from GP referral (!!) but I phoned the clinic and by some miracle somebody had just called to cancel their appointment so I got seen the following week (rather than having to wait until February!). It is also worth getting your thyroid levels checked out as if they are too high this can interfere with TTC. I don't know if you ever use mumsnet but there is a great thread on there under Conception called TTC for 10 months+ which is worth a read, and other threads about what blood tests to ask your GP for (it's quite extensive!) xx I loved acupuncture and used to fall asleep throughout my session every time!

Hi there .. I just went to see my GP for the first time today after we have been ttc for 14 months ... Its the ball rolling now and I have to say that my Dr was very supportive and is doing extensive bloods ( the nurse even past comment on the number of bottles to fill !! lol) and is making an appointment for a scan and has passed me onto another Dr in the surgery who specialises in reproductive health ... Im feeling very positive today !!

That's good to hear. I have made a GP appointment for Thursday so we will take it from there.
