i have the sonoline b 3mhz and when i look for a beat i only hear wooshing not the same sounds as im hearing other people find. i found a wooshing sound at 150bpm but it didnt sound like babys beat. i also was wondering, on the left side button their is an option for 1,2 or 3..i notice alot of people are using option 2. what do these numbers mean? HELP IM CONFUSED!

hi hun,

yer the whoosing is not baby - but keep looking. i have to search for 5-10 mins before finding baby - esp as baby moves about!

the one, two, three are as follows:

1 - real time FHR (fetal heart rate) Mode and will give you the hb reading (this is the one most people use)

2 - average FHR mode

3 - manual mode basically you press the backlight symbol to start and agin to stop. In this time the sonoline will count the beats.

xxx hope that helps xxx

ps. just seen you are 8w3days - this is when i found HB for first time with sonoline. it took me at least 15 mins. Also, was already above my pubic bone - so although start looking along there, do also look a little above it x Now that im 9 weeks 5 days the baby is a little higher still and over to the right move... nightmare on patience LOL

I have the sonoline b too! It's great!

At 8 weeks, I really doubt you are going to be able to hear the heartbeat yet :( I wasn't able to until about 9.5 weeks. Some women cannot hear until 12-13. It all depends on a few things; baby's position, your build/weight, and your uterine position. If the baby is turned away or at an angle, the HB is going to be impossible to get. The same thing goes for your uterus. Lastly, if you are carrying extra weight on your midsection, the sound waves will have a much harder time getting through.

The sound you are hearing is probably your own heartbeat. The baby's is very fast and sound like galloping horses. It really is unmistakable :)

The 3 modes are pretty simple. I use 2 and 3 the most. Mode 2 is a real time HR. It is constantly calculating and recalculating. The numbers are usually all over the place. Mode 3 is more accurate. Set the mode to 3, then press the illumination button on the far right until you see lines on the screen. Find the HB and monitor it for about 10-30 seconds. Press the illumination button again, and it will show you the avg HR for the amount of time you set.

Hope this helps!!!

yeah im pretty skinny 120lbs. i cant find it anywhere =[ worries me, i just went to the doc 6 days ago and heard the heartbeat (153bpm) and said the baby was fine and measuring good. i got it to ease my mind and instead im now paranoid, i know maybe its too early but still worries me as iv had a miscarriage last year, i mean, the last babys heart never had a beat and never grew and doc told me this one looks good but i have 20 days til my next appt and im dying!

Like I said, it's probably too early for you to find it at home. The doctor's equipment is WAY more sensitive, and he is a professional. Because of last time it's hard not to worry, but please try not to stress. Give it a couple weeks. If your doctor is optimistic, you should too  I still have days where I can't find a heartbeat at home, but it's only because the baby is turned away! On those occasions, I just tell myself that baby is swimming around a lot and hard to capture!

I didn't find mine 'til 10 + 4 weeks. You should just put it away for a while and chill. When you do try again, look near your pubic bone. Press firmly and point the wand towards your cervix. It might take several tries, but you should find it eventually. Good luck.

wooshing if it is fast could be the blood of the cord into the baby... but not the actual opening and closing of the baby's heart chambers, but its still the baby!

Try finding a slower heartbeat near your right or left hip bone, that is your heartbeat, and then the baby's heartbeat will be about twice as fast as you :)
