Fetus at a risk of Down Syndrome

Hi i am almost 11 weeks pregnant.

I am taking insulins for my type2 diabetes, thyroxin 25mcg fr hypothyroid and aspirin and duphastone to support my pregnancy.

I am hospitalised since 3 days after i passed a blood clot half the size of palm. The baby is fine fr now. There was a seperation between the placenta and the uterus hence the bleeding. But the gap is very minute and it wl resolve on its own.

The other thing they noticed in scan is the skin behind the baby's neck is 5mm normally it should be below 3mm. 3mm is also risky. So this value has put my baby in increased risks of having a down syndrome and other chromosomal abnormality or/also congenital diseases and increases my chance of having a miscarriage altogether more.

Anybody at the same risks??

All i can do is hope n prAy.

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear of the problems you are having.

Although I haven't had any bleeding etc i did have a high NT reading on our 11wkscan. We decided to have the CVS (like the Amnio) to check for chromosomal problems. After a long wait, the results came back clear.

i not much help but i have seen ladies on here whos babies have had anything up to 8mm and their babies were fine x

hi there, March 5 2013 I got told my baby has a NT OF 6MM . We went ahead and done the harmony test, my baby has a 99% chance of downs. So instead of the wait and see approach I went ahead and done the amnio. I am still waiting on the results. So there are women on same issues than yourself. maybe we can all relate and help each other through it. March 5 I was 12 weeks 4 days.

I have had 2 miscarriages consecutively. All this while i was concentrating pn controlling my diabetes and not having a miscarriage. Have been praying so hard to have a healthy baby which will be our first child if god wills. Then this news comes in. Me n hubby were heartbroken. Not sure what our next step should be. I am currently residing in saudi arabia. They dnt do a CVS here so the only option given to us was amniocentesis. That wl b done Aftr week 16 but we were Also warned abt the miscarriage chances going slightly up. So we dnt want to put our pregnancy in any jeopardy.
I just learnt abt harmony test while going thru the related threads in b&b so wl try n enquire abt it. M also thnking to get a u/s done agn by elsewhere only to make sure tht there is a problem.
Last few days have been bad n stressful fr us. God helps us find a way n i wish u guys all da best with ur pregnancies as well.

The CVS had a 3% chance of miscarriage, the Amnio between 1&2%. Not sure if the stats are different where you are x

CVS is not an option for us in KSA. We can only go through amniocentesis and yes the doc did inform us it increases our chances of miscarry by another percentage.
The thing is me n hubby wldn't wanna terminate our pregnancy in either way so we r thinking y increase that another 1% of risk. Keeping in mind that i already have miscarried twice in past two yrs. To come this far is an achievement for us. lets see....

I'm going through the same thing so I know your worry. I don't know the exact measurements of my baby's kneck fold , since they saw my baby's heart beat was so low. My baby had a heat rate of 47-50 beats per minute when it should be above 140... My chances to miscarry are about 90% and. The chances of chromosome abnormalities are 75% ... So the odds are against me .. My doctors stil have not gotten back to me with my amnio or cvs appointment

It really sucks i feel for u too. I wish u cld wait till your baby's hbr goes up and then go for cvs or amnio. Lets hope for the best

I didn't have the blood tests done yet....the doc told me to wait until after tomorrow

If u r in USA plz enquire your doc about these tests MaterniT21 and Harmony. I hope i can find these tests here too. And all the best to u dear.
There r few other threads in this same forum where u wl find some hopeful stories. Most of people's tests came out to be a negative. Lets hope the same for ourselves.
