Owens been sick with a low grade fever since Monday. He just hasn't been himself. His temp has ranged anywhere from 99.8-100.9. Well last night it spiked to 103.6! I gave him some Tylenol and it went down. This morning he was back to 100.8. He's had runny diapers, and been so crabby! At first I blamed teething but now I'm not sure anymore! I had him at the doctor Wednesday and they said just s virus.

TBH, sounds like a virus. You've been to the doctor, not much else you can do. Sounds like you are handling it perfectly! The fever is the body's way of fighting off germs, so it is a GOOD thing, not bad. As long as your LO is not feeling miserable, let it be. If it gets high ( and I wouldn't even worry if it just spikes occasionally) you can give fever reducers, as you have done. If he seems particularly miserable, giving medicine is fine. Just remember the body has brought on a fever to fight something, so by lowering the fever you are lowing the body's offenses.

Kids are much more likely than adults to get fevers with even minor illnesses. Adults just aren't used to seeing fever so much! DS gets a tiny fever with even a head cold, doesn't phase him a bit.

Lots of babies on here experiencing fevers at the moment, it seems!

Mine had one all yesterday and seemed pretty unwell (barely eating, cold hands and feet but burning body, shivering, breathing fast, upset, etc.) but is better today. She still isn't eating properly, though, and has big 'eczema' flare ups on various parts of her body ... we were thinking teething was to blame, as she is teething at the moment, but now I'm wondering about hand, foot and mouth as I've heard it can occur all over the body and LO's 'eczema' looks really blistered ...

I'd keep giving the Tylenol to keep any fever/pain at a minimum. We have been giving LO Calpol (infant paracetamol) every four hours. We also kept her undressed except for a nappy. She slept like this under just a light cotton blanket, to keep her comfortable. You can't really do much more than this, as well as obviously keeping a close eye on him and his temperature. I think most serious illnesses would usually be well in place after almost a week, and be accompanied by more worrying symptoms, such as vomiting, listlessness or refusal/inability to eat or drink anything.

You could try a lukewarm bath if he seems to be really burning, but this made our LO shiver badly when she came out, so be aware. She was fine after a few minutes, but it wasn't very nice.

As always, you know what is concerning when it comes to your baby. If you are worried, it's better to be safe than sorry.

We ended up taking him in because he woke up from his nap with a rash we've never seen before. He tested positive for rectal strep! On antibiotics and one dose has already made a difference in how he's feeling!

Oh poor little man! Glad you know what's wrong now. Just thought I would update too to say that my daughter definitely has hand, foot and mouth disease judging by her appearance this morning - so there's always a reason for a fever, if our LOs are anything to go by!

Hope your lad is better soon.
