Hi all

I've been lurking here for a little while & have finally plucked up the courage to say hi.

I was a Bnb member when expecting my first and when ttc my second. Then I was hospitalised & diagnosed with itp (idiopathic thrombocytopenia). Basically my platelet count is low and my blood doesn't clot well anymore. After lots of hospital stays, a long course of steroids, several other treatments alongside 18mths of ttc I'm finally off all medication. I've had lots of low moments and throughout everything - ttc has been my main focus & worry. The long term steroids had a positive effect on my pcos and I was ovulating - my cycles were 60 days but I was anovulatory before #1 so an improvement. However my lp reduced to 7 days :-( I tried acupuncture, but my blood counts were still pretty low so I got bruising & bleeding from the needles.

I've been off steroids since march this year and my lp is better at 10 days. I'm trying a b vitamin complex and some omega 3's too this month. I've had three clomid cycles this year - all failed. I'm due to go back to gynae this week for a review.

I'm disappointed that I have to go back at all - I thought clomid would be my answer. But I'm also hopeful that my "stats" can be reviewed & maybe another treatment plan may work better.

So after 18 mths ttc I figured I belong here - hope it's ok that I've dropped in. I'd love some ttc friends, advice & support. Hope to be a more regular visitor :flower:

Welcome back! It sounds like you had a rough go of it. It's nice when something actually helps PCOS and regulated periods. I am glad that your LP is getting longer. Are you taking supplements to lengthen the LP?

I am currently doing my fourth IUI. I finished my 100mg Clomid yesterday and go for my first ultrasound on July 25. Friday! EEEK! We are doing a very early ultrasound trying to see if it will help us be successful. I am expecting IUI around Aug 4, but we will see how my follies do. If this is not successful- DH and I are taking a break for a couple months to save up for IUI at end of 2014.

Hopefully the doctor can shed some light on why the Clomid didn't work. Are you sure you were ovulating on it? I took it in 2012 for 6 months and only O's twice! Sometimes the dose needs upped. I don't O at 50mg, I always start at 100mg and work my way up. Luckily, I haven't needed more.

Keep me posted as to the docs response. :hugs: :hugs:

Welcome back! I'm sorry Acupuncture doesn't work for you because of the blood issues. I started doing it, and along with the Yuan Support Formula herbs that my acupuncturist gave me, my LP was a bit improved the first month, and I got a BFP (chemical :( ) the second month.

It is really tough when other health problems interact with trying to get pregnant. I have gut issues which are best treated with Entocort (steroids), but trying to wean off of them for TTC, and then my guts flare up. Vicious cycle.

If only our bodies would just work right, am I right?

Hi guys!!

It's so nice not to feel quite so alone for a change!!

Mikihob - I'm trying to lengthen my lp with a b complex vitamin just now. But stopping my steroids helped it lengthen naturally - it just seems to have stuck at 10 days. I'm temping & using ff so I'm pretty sure I ov'd. I missed one month due to a sickness bug but don't know why it didn't work the other two. Very exciting that you have an ultrasound this week. My clomid cycles weren't monitored & I so wish they had been. I ov'd on day 17, 21 & 31 on consecutive months at 50mg. The first two months I did acupuncture too & I really think it helped!

Kallie - I am forever wishing my body would just do what it's supposed to!!!! It's so frustrating! Sorry you're having health flare ups - how do you cope with the steroids? I was lucky & had very few side effects but I know others have a really tough time on them! I'm glad to hear acupuncture works for you - I may try it again if I get some better blood results. Really sorry to hear about your chemical though - hopefully things are working right & you'll get there very soon.

My gynae appointment is in the morning & I'm beginning to feel nervous. Don't know why - not like it's a job interview!! I can't make my body do anything amazing just for tomorrow!!

I didn't have any negative reactions to Entocort at all - I think it is only supposed to go into your guts, not your blood stream, so the chances of bad results are less. I know some people had bad reactions, but for me it was a real miracle. Unfortuntely, you are supposed to be able to go off of them and only use them for 'flare ups', but with my guts I am in a constant state of flare up, and as soon as I was off the drugs it came back. Oh well. I'm experimenting with a combo of treatments to figure out what's best.

Actually the steroids might have been a factor in me getting high blood pressure in the spring, but it is much more likely to be from stress, weight, and genetics. Work is high stress, so I'm actually doing a meeting with HR tomorrow to try to work with them to reduce my work stress.

Can't be a good employee if I'm sick all the time, can I?!

How did HR meeting go kallie? Hope it was useful. We've just undergone a huge organisational restructure where I work & it has been stressful so I know what it's like to feel like all parts of your life are hard work

At gynae review today I had another scan to confirm pcos. Had a beautiful string of pearls on my ovaries :growlmad:

But, I've got 100mg clomid for the next three cycles AND they're going to be monitored cycles :happydance: I feel much more comfortable with the idea of monitored cycles. I was told that if the clomid looks like it's thinning my lining then they'll switch to femara. They're also going to give me a trigger shot when all is looking good.

I am feeling hopeful that this may eventually lead a somewhere. It did sound like a long road rather than a quick fix but I can live with that road if it takes me to a bfp. Now just got a long wait for AF - well it feels long to me. I'm cd 20 today & my last cycle was 50 days. So in hoping that it's gonna be no longer than that this month.

Good luck for your scan tomorrow mikihob! Hope you have good results!!

My HR meeting was really good today, really positive. They are going to work with me to make sure I can work and be a good employee while still staying alive and healthy! Actually, they were really appreciative of me coming to them and talking about it well before our busy season, so that is great.

Now if only our rental property business would be less stressful... had some really destructive tenants blow through, have to pick up the pieces! Going to just sell I think...
