Our 2 sons are Cian Edward and Bram Theodore. We live in the US, so these are unusual for where we live. We are trying to decide if we want new bean to have an "A" name so we will have A, B, C, or if we want 4 letter names, or both/neither. DH loves the name Aria, but I worry it is too common/trendy. Thoughts and suggestions (boys and girls) welcome.

Our last name starts with an L and ends in son, which can be limiting especially for boy names.

Names that have four letters and/or start with A that I have on my list are... Wow, not as many as I thought! Mostly girls.

BOYS:
Owen
Astor

GIRLS:
Lyra
Adena
Aerona
Azure
Erin
Andraste
Alara
Aurora

Mica
Nova
Athena
Avaline
Alyna
Amira
Jade
Cora
Isla
Wren
Astraea

I don't know if any of these are common round your part, as it is different everywhere (Cian is a vey common name here in Ireland)

Boys

Aled
Artt* (Spelt Art in Gaelic but yu can add on an e or an extra t to make it letters.)
Alex
Aron
Adam

Girls

Anya (on-ya)
Abel
Ayla (Pronounced eye-la)
Abby
Aida
Alia (Pronounced Ay-Lia)
Alby (pronounced All-be, in Gaelic is set Ailbe)*
Aine (pronounced Awn-ya)*

I would be tempted to use the ones I've put a * next to. Those are Gaelic names and your oldest 2 both already have Gaelic names (or words Gaelic words) (Cian meaning ancient and Bram meaning Raven).

I like Aria too. I've never heard of any one with that name. I don't think it's common.

Great ideas. Thanks. I just can't decide if I should stick to the 4 letter thing or not.

Aria was ranked 40th last year in the US. I would be so sad if it ended up a top 10 name.

Other names I like are Rhys, Alexander, Iris, Verity, Esme ... there are others, but those I remember from our list from our last baby.

What about Aura? Very pretty!

Aria is great, but if you're worried about popularity, it is sure to go up due to Game of Thrones - although I think the spelling is different. I'm not one to worry about the popularity of names though, so I would definitely use it! :flower:

One of my all time favourite names is Abel - but we aren't using A names :(

Aria is such a pretty name! I don't know of any, not in real life or online acquaintances, nothing... but when I saw the name on Game of Thrones I thought to myself that it was really pretty, and it is probably spiking up in popularity for baby girls for that reason and possibly maintain the spike if everyone who then hears it has that "wow, beautiful name" reaction. BUT I don't think it's going to become the next Emma of right now or Jennifer of the 80's...

I also have 2 kids with 4-letter names and would possibly continue that trend, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it, I don't think a longer name would be mismatched and I don't think a non-A name would be mismatched either. I'd probably keep it at 1-2 syllables, under 6 letters and not a B or C name but that leave A LOT of possibilities!

Aria/Arya is in two popular shows right now (GoT & Pretty Little Liars) so I definitely think it will continue to gain popularity. However, I don't think that's a bad thing if the name isn't too trendy, and Aria doesn't really strike me as trendy. I actually really like it but my DH hates it (he thinks it's too hard to say, somehow...).
