Our baby boy Elijah was born 3/5/12 within 8 hrs from when my water broke. Everything was super intense and super fast. There was no reason for him coming early, no infection, no issues etc. He just seemed to be ready.

He was a good weight of 4 lbs 13 oz, 17 inches tall, with an apgar of 9! He is breathing on his own, very alert, seems to be doing great. Due to his age of course he needs to stay in NICU for a while.

Anyone have any advice, a premie around the same age etc?

Just wanted to say congrats again I had my son @ 25 weeks, but your LO is a good weight and good gestation, he should have a relatively smooth NICU stay and be home with you soon, most likely around his original due date thats the general rule of thumb, but some babies do go home around the 37 week mark also. GL

Congratulations on your little man. Hoping for an uneventful NICU stay for him.

Congratulations on your little one :) sounds like he's doing great!

I had my daughter at exactly 33weeks due to pre-e, she weighed 4lb 9oz and did great, she only needed help with breathing for a day, and the rest of her stay was just to help with feeding, she was discharged home after only 14days.

She's now 7months old and has caught up perfectly in size (she caught up in size by her due date) she has been behind with a few things, like not smiling till 14weeks (7 corrected)
Her head control was very poor until around 5months, she's still not keen on weaning but other than a few milestone delays she's been perfect in every other way.

Hope everything goes well and you get LO home soon :)

My dd was born at 33+2, she is now 19 months! She was born 4lb10oz and stayed in NICU for 16 days. Her only issue was keeping her temperature stable. She ate within an hour of birth and took to the bottle very easily. We couldn't get her to latch, so I pumped for a year until she started nursing lol. Now, she is still a little peanut, but super healthy and an amazing girl.

I hope you have a nice uneventful stay. Congratulations!

Hi, my little one was born last year at 32+2, he was 3lb 11.5oz so your little one is a fab fab weight! my Little one had a very rough first week due to having RDS & a collapsed lung, but once those were resolves he came on leaps & bounds!

He came home 1 day before he turned 4 weeks old and came home fully breastfed and has had very few problems since. He is now 14 months and doing fab :) a chunky 19lb's

6footnoodle: thank you! I have a birth story in birth stories lol can't link it from my phone but it should be easy to find.

And all of you mommas thank you! He has been breathing on his own since he was born and has been doing great since. He is under the billy lights back and forth but nothing alarming. Today we found iut he has been taking the bottle since last night and finishing them! He has latched on to my breast but can't quite hold on. Today we also met the behavioral specialist and he said he is doing exceptional for his age! We are so happy and pray that this progress keeps up!

Congrats Dollface! My little guy was born at 28 weeks :) The part that tends to take the longest and "hold" babies up in the NICU is getting the eating by bottle and/or breast down. It sounds like your little one is doing fab with that! I bet you will be home in no time!

Best of luck to you both, I hope your stay in the NICU is short and you are snuggling your LO at home soon :)
