First doctors appointment

So my appointment is on the 6th and i'm really scared cause ya know, i thought i'd having my loving OH with me but thats not the reality anymore. I HATE having blood drawn, to the point where i freak out. my blood pressure goes up, i cry hysterically, its bad. i just can't handle it and i'm worried i'm gonna hurt the baby and have no control over it =[ and in general i'm not really sure what to expect cause pamphlets dont give you personal experiences. help =[

I'm not good getting my blood drawn either, but honestly you're going to have to do it just about every time you're at the Dr now. It's over in a few seconds though, just don't look. Remember you're doing it for you and your baby's health At my first drs appointment they did that, a urine test, pap smear, and then an ultra sound. Hope it all goes well for you!

Aw you poor thing

I can understand why you would be nervous. It's always nerve wracking going to the doctor's. And even worse going when you're pregnant and your hormones are all crazy! Trust me, once you get there and you get the whole process started with going to the doctor, it will get more exciting the more you go. And, taking your OH is your own choice so if you don't feel comfortable having him go then don't take him. It's really your choice. I know my first doctor's appt I went alone because I preferred it but ever since I've always had someone go with me!

Usually the first doctor's appt is just general health stuff, like getting your blood pressure taken, your height, weight, urine test and then the doctor will go over you & your OH's medical history. Sometimes they check the heart beat on doppler, but a lot of times they don't. I know on my first doctor's appt I didn't get blood drawn! So that may not happen. But, just try to stay relaxed because you won't know what's going to happen until you've actually done it because it can vary from dr to dr. If you worry too, your blood pressure can automatically rise! & You don't want that forsure.

But good luck at your doctor's appt, everything will go fine. And once it's over you'll be so happy and you'll think "wow that was a lot easier then I expected!"

I hope so. my FOB doesnt talk to me anymore, and honestly i wouldnt take him anyway cause he's proven himself to be...not nice things.
Honestly, my blood pressure is low, but because i freak out so bad when i get my blood pressure taken it gets normal. haha. ehhhh i really hope that it goes better cause i'm doing it for baby not me, but ick.

You will be fine I had to go on my own as OH was at work.

I ddn't have to have blood drawn until the 12 weeks appointment scan as I had been in hospital a few weeks before and they did it there.
It will most likely be alot of talking & filling in forms. Good luck!

I agree that its gotta be done either way, so you should fine some way to relax. Its not safe for the baby to freak out so much. Try not looking and pretend something else is going on, have a conversation or close your eyes, listen to your ipod or something. I hate getting my blood drawn, but when its over I feel like I threw a hissy fit for no reason! lol

I went to my first appointment, and every appointment, on my own, and honestly it's not bad at all
Don't worry about your bloods, i used to hate having anything like that done but to be honest you have to have them taken A LOT through pregnancy and so it's better to just get used to it KWIM?
