Am 36+1 today and my ob has advised I be induced next week (at 37+4). Reasons given is that at last wks scan my baby is already measuring 3 weeks ahead. With my first child I had mild shoulder dystocia. I went into labour spontaneously at 37+3 (a few days before i was due to be induced for the same issue). They had to yank my dd out quite forcibly and apparently she was a tight squeeze. She weighed 3.6kg.

I'm just wondering whether anyone can give their experiences on induction for their 2nd births, what the labour was like, how long it went for, and whether they had a successful vaginal delivery or it ended up in a c section.

Thanks.

I had an induction with both of my births and the second one just went a lot faster for me. My first birth was a total of 8 hours while with my most recent one it was a total of 4 hours :)

I had my vaginal exam this morning at 37+2 - only 1cm dilated, cervix posterior and firm, so not very "favourable". Was quite disappointed. He still think that seeing as it is my 2nd birth the chance of a failed induction at this point is very rare, like 10%.

So, I'm being induced tomorrow night. He said they'll give me the gel at around 6pm and then monitor overnight, then break water in am and maybe start drip.

Being a second baby, what are the chances my baby will be born that day? I'm quite nervous but me and DH feel we have made the right choice. My ob knows that I really don't want a c/s and will do everything he can so that I achieve a vaginal delivery.

Update. Had my baby boy yesterday. Relatively quick induced labour, active labor 4 hours. Vaginally delivery with no tears, and he weighed 3.245kg.

Glad that's all over, no drugs - gel, ARM, then syntocinon drip, with an unfavourable cervix but all worked out in the end :)
