Hi guys!
She arrived at 40 weeks +2. On 28th may 2013 after a 4 hour labour!!
Started with Braxton hicks on Monday tea time at 5:30pm well I thought they were contractions as I couldn't talk through them, but used hypnobirthing techniques to breathe through them, they increased to lasting 40 seconds long every 6 minutes by 3am. Got my mum over for 6am and rang hospital. They said they weren't regular enough to be contractions despite the pain. I was devastated. I spent the rest of the day hobbling around the house, wincing through each contraction.
I had midwife appt booked in at 4pm for a sweep, so went there and poured my heart out to her! She checked me and I was 1cm dilated and fully effaced. She gave me a really really good sweep and as soon as I got home through the door my waters gushed everywhere! Contractions started immediately at 2 mins apart. Went straight to hospital, thinking I would get sent home as not 4cm dilated, but they could see I was getting through a contraction every 2 mins so gave me codeine and gas and air. I adored the g&a!!! It really helped me through it all!
Got checked again and was now 2cm. Got into a lavender bath which was heaven, and just watched Britains Got Talent in the bath on my g&a. After 20 mins the pain upped a bit and I started being a bit more vocal!! Hopped out bath for another check and an injection of meptid and I was 4cm at 9pm. Decided to stay on the bed for a bit and started pushing with each contraction. Midwife told me to stop as not far enough on, but I can't explain how good it felt to push!!! Lost the last of my waters (I thought I was weeing and really didnt care!!) and started screaming and grunting like an animal with each contraction. It felt so good to scream through the pain, midwife told me off saying g&a doesn't work if your screaming.
Midwife worried that because Florence was back to back, I wouldn't last a long labour as I would tire myself out with the pain. I felt like she would burst out my back. She quickly checked me again to see if I could have an epidural, and nearly fainted, baby was sat there ready to crown!! I had gone from 4cm to 10cm in 40 mins!!!!
I sat up, and started to push. This was the worst and best bit. I was scared to push as didnt like the feeling, and couldn't have g&a whilst I pushed. Something took over me and 14 mins of pushing and screaming the place down....her head came out quickly followed by her body despite me trying to pant!! It felt wonderful all of a sudden to not be in pain!
She was 8pounds exact, born at 21:59. Skin on skin for 15 mins, then I had to get stitched as had a 2nd degree tear, and bruising to perineum. Relayed heavily on g&a for stitches too as local anaesthetic was rubbish.
The birth was everything I wanted. No intervention, as little pain relief as possible and very natural. The pain was bad, but it was a good pain, not a pointless pain like toothache!! Every pain helped deliver my baby.
I'd do it all again in a flash. Total delivery time from membranes rupturing to delivery was 4hours 5mins.
No one could believe it. I relied heavily on RLT and OEP taking 5-6 a day and believe that is what got me so effaced and dilated quickly.
Thanks for reading. I'm exhausted but absolutely fine, stitches hurt but applying pure lavender oil to maternity pads is helping keep them clean and uninfected. I feel very blessed with my beautiful baby, and so happy with my birth and delivery. Xxx
