My LO is 7 months and she's been on breast-milk plus hungry milk since birth.

Now im wondering, what is the difference between this and stage 3 follow on milk? From what I understand its only the iron in stage 3? But she gets plenty of iron from her solid dinners so is it really necessary to move on to follow on milk?

As far as I'm aware, it's just the levels of iron and possibly some minerals which are different in follow-on milk, but as long as your LO is getting those from her solids then you are fine to stay as-is with the milk she's getting now. My LO gets BM plus some formula top-ups when I can't pump enough and we'll be staying this way and not going to follow-on. Just have to sneak her some spinach ;)

Both my HV have always said that follow on milk is a con (well notin those words)
There is no need to offer follow on, you can carry on with normal.

The main reason the companies have this, is a marketing ploy, as they are not allowed to advertise first milk!

I know this will sound horrible (but LO is formula feed already) I am going to move to follow on milk after 6 months because you can get it on sale where the first milk is at a set price (every little savings is a help to us while I'm on SMP)

I was wondering the same thing, actually...

yes I heard this too and was wondering why as they are the same price but it makes sense if it means they can advertise it.

Yes I;ve been told by many it;s no different

I was going to move on to it due to the offers/promotions...extra bit of savin.

If you're lo is has a balanced diet then u could stick with stage 1 but if u want to move on its ok too i did.

If its cheaper... Then why not.
I thought it was more expensive... Sorry never used formula before.

Yes, you don't need to change at all. I didn't with my son, just stayed with first milk. However, I do plan to change my daughter over at 6 months as I'm poorer now and want the Boots advantage points which you can't get with first milk. Simple economics I'm afraid!

My LO is on breast milk but she'll be having follow on coz its cheaper...

I'll probably move - sick to death of Tesco being out of stock on stage 1 and 2 milk, and clubcard/advantage points are something I don't say no to.

I will NOT be moving, regardless of price. We tried Earl out on follow on having been on SMA 1 from birth and he was so poorly. It is slightly different in it's recipe (don't know how but I know it is slightly different) and he got blocked up, wind, didn't sleep, all sorts of problems. We swapped him back to first milk.

I did try toddler milk when he reached 12 months, purely because he could have it in the cartons with the straw. Luckily by then it agreed with him lol. It was only 1 carton a day by then though, so not really the same as the 3-6 bottles he was having from 6-12 months.
