I have combi fed since my LO was born due to latching issues and not enough supply. Nighttime feeds are currently breastfed feeds and since about 3 weeks she has only woken once a night however now she is waking 2 or 3 and I know that my milk is no longer filling her as I just don't have enough so am looking to switch her to exclusively FF. My question is, I have read it's not a good idea to just stop and to slowly wean yourself off. So how has everyone else done it? Thing is when my boobs fill they get sore and lumpy so I don't want to risk getting mastitis.

what i did was express when my boobs felt kinda full, but wouldnt empty just express until my boobs felt comfortable.
I think this sorta confused my body coz there was no pattern to the expressing and would be different every time, so my supply eventually stopped. Took about 2 weeks but worked well.

While i was doing this i was giving Harriet 1 feed of EBM, and then a formula bottle for the next etc.

hope this helps :-)

I switched a feed every few days until I was completely FFing. At the end my boobs were a bit sore so I expressed just enough to take the discomfort away.

I just stopped. I was really sore for a couple of days but then it started getting better. I went back to work to a job where I could not pump and after one day for trying to express in the bathroom sink on a 2 minute potty break, I gave up. Personally, I had no problems but some soreness.

i switched to formula for daytime feeds 3 weeks ago. i just stopped cold turkey, and boy was i sore! but i'm still feeding at night, so at least i had her drain them then!

just a thought tho - how long has your LO been waking more often? it could just be a growth spurt and things might return to normal in a couple of days!

I had no choice and was pretty much forced to stop suddenly. I was hospitalized with suicidal ideations and diagnosed with Post Partum Depression. They started me on meds so I couldn't give any BM to Muffin and the hospital I was at wouldn't let me pump if I was going to just dump it so I pretty much had to go cold turkey. It hurt a little but but I didn't get lumps or mastitis or anything.
