My daughter was born by forcep delivery in the room not theatre in a totally trumatic delivery. Now im pregnant again im still looking for answers to help my sanity.

Why would they not take me to theatre? Why didnt I get proper pain relief? Are there reasons for this or just laziness? Anyone any insight as to why some assisted deliveries are carried out on labour ward??

Maybe time was a major factor? Like there was no time to get you over there. Was baby having major decels or anything?

Mine was on ward too. Location doesn't matter. Who is doing it matters more. If the doc is comfortable doing it in the room then by all means why not. Or time could
Be a factor, if baby in distress for example.

I'd ask the doctor or midwife for an explanation to put your mind at rest. If it helps, I had forceps with my first and nothing at all with the next two. My midwife was pretty confident I'd need no assistance and she was right. Her experience was that most girls who had forceps or ventouse first time, went on to have births with no interventions xx

Was your daughter relatively low down and in the correct position for delivery?

I had forceps in the room with DD1 and I think the fact she wasn't high and was in a decent position influenced the decision - also time as she was in distress.

I didn't need any assistance with DD2 :hugs:

Can you get someone to go through your notes and give some answers? My hospital offers this service and I really helped me to understand why things happened the way they did. I had forceps in theatre but that was because they thought I would need a caeserean instead. I think lots of forceps are carried out on the ward if it uncomplicated but I'm sorry you didn't get proper pain relief. Perhaps they needed to move quickly?

I had a Forcep delivery with my first in the delivery room not a theatre, tbh I hadn't ever questioned it.she was in distress so they helped her out...
MY baby 2 was a much , much easier birth!!!

I had forceps in theatre and as I understood at the time this due to the fact that baby was high and there was a strong likelihood that I'd need a C-section. My forceps delivery was hugely traumatic and I was anxious about my second labour but happily my second birth was amazing and had no interventions whatsoever :flower:

I had a mid cavity forceps delivery without pain relief and in the labour room not theatre. Baby went into major distress and I initially refused forceps but doctor said wasn't time for any alternatives, she had to get him out. It was me who took the vast majority of the damage fortunately and not my son. I was given a spinal block after delivery so they could stitch me up (took over 3 hours in theatre!) x

Could it possibly of been because they either didn't think you would need to be in theatre or they didn't have enough time to move you there? My forceps delivery was in theatre but I actually went down there for an EMCS, they only tried forceps as I was really ill and it was risky to give me a GA with a fever. I'd get a hold of your medical notes and see if they have any answers. :)

Also, I didn't need any assistance with my second. :)

I had a forceps on labour ward with no pain relief, just local anaesthetic for the episiotomy because as soon as I started pushing my baby's heart rate shot down from 155 beats per minute on average to 60 beats per minute and didn't recover so they had to get him out quickly. It was very painful when they pulled on the forceps but was over very quickly luckily. He came out screaming too and didn't even have forcep marks.

My forceps delivery went quite smooth, I already had an Epidural and DD was crowning, but I just couldnt quite g3t her out despite my best efforts. She did have a little bruising from the forceps, but my recovery was fast and she came out safe. I wouldnt hesitate if another was needed this time. But I'm hoping like many of these mommas have said, my second will come without needing help.

I had forceps in theatre because my little boy was in distress and it was a case of trying out forceps but prepping me for an EMCS and doing that if the forceps didn't do the job xx

Forceps are generally harder on Mom than baby. Just remember every labor is different.

Do they have an afterthoughts service at the hospital you delivered in? I was thinking of getting my notes so I could understand why I ended up with ventouse delivery. Mine was in labour ward rather than theatre but I believe it was because he was low but just needed a bit of help turning. Likelihood is you won't need any help this time around but try to be positive, stay in an upright position and maybe try a pool xx

Yes I agree with PP.. you can request your birth notes to look at, at home if you want (there's a lot of stuff on the internet that can help you translate the codes on them and understand all of it) or alternatively, most hospitals offer a reflections/afterthoughts sessions where you go and someone discusses the notes with you and tries to answer any questions you have. x
