Is there need to change formula for reflux babies - I never got advised but I'm sure I've read there is?

Any info or suggestions girls?

x

I know the formula i started abby on yesterday is Karicare thickened formula not sure if you have it over there i know when i was breastfeeding she had alot of reflux she would spit up after every feed since she has been having this she hasn`t at all.

Good question wobbles...i never thought of that before...x

Joe got prescribed 'enfamil' formula by the dr. It is for reflux and is very good, it is the same consistency as ordinary formula but thickens in the stomach when it comes into contact with acid therefore staying down! Genuis eh?:happydance:

Go ask your dr for some plus its free:blush::happydance:

enfamil AR or something - She told me about this (HV) but said it was mainly for babies who were only on milk and not diagnosed so far in and weaning?

S26 Gold AR. Got recommended by my pediatrician.

just be careful with thickened formulas as i have found out it can cause constipation and thats aweful

You can get SMA stay down hun, and you can even get that on prescription go see your gp

not sure  is caitlin still being sick?

Hi wobbles, Tabs is severe reflux and has been on meds since the first few days.
She is on meds ranitidine (sp?) and donperidone 3 times a day and is now also on baby gaviscon too. the meds help the food stay down and digest quicker.
She was still refluxing on sma so is now perm on Cow and gate Comfort 1. It also has around a quarter of the lactose levels in it. Works perfectly for tabs.:happydance:

My baby is nine weeks old and has been on cow and gate comfort since she was two weeks (when she was on sma gold) as she had problems with wind and pains in her stomach and cried when she was awake. Cow and Gate Comfort is great although all the bottles have to be made fresh as I rang Cow and Gate helpline when i discovered it separates in the fridge. Another disadvantage is the really runny nappies but she is really much happier since I changed the milk. I would recommend it and my doctoe says it can help babies who have reflux as well.

Also i found that if i mix the comfort 1 with room temp water it doesnt go gloopy like it does with hot water and she poo's more ofter....before it was one explosion a day really runny, now a few each day and much less wind etc.

Also got the dr brown bottles and instead of shaking the formula(which puts bubbles in) i swirl itif that makes sense......its all definately working together now.

Hi everyone!!

I am hoping to get some answers or ideas on what approach I should take. My girl is 8 weeks today and was diagnosed with acid reflux at 2weeks of age. She was on Zantac for 3 weeks and just recently on 4/21 got changed to Prevacid once a day. We have tried Isomil, Similac Sensitive, Alimentum ( only for 2 days because she had a hard time even drinking it!) and now got switched to Good Start Gentle Plus. She was doing well until 3 days ago when she started being fussy again, spitting up, not sleeping, regurgitating, gagging and just being uncomfortable. I called the GI specialist who did the change from the zantac to the prevacid and the formula change as well. The nurse called me back saying to try to Good start formula and if not the Alimentum. At the moment, it was obvious to me that she had no clue of baby's condition or chart even!! I told her she was already on the Good start and had tried the Alimentum. Apparently the dietician said to try it again because she was younger when she first tried and that maybe now she could take it. I dont want to keep changing her formulas! I asked her if there was not a better formula for her? oh i forgot she also had me adding brown rice cereal to the formula and breast milk. I m pumping and gving her the bmilk in a bottle with cereal because otherwise she would spit up and get gas and cry and be uncomfortable! I have tried changing my diet, and nothing help. Is there any other formulas they could try? I am getting upset at them ! I dont understand why they cant give her one that really works if there is such a thing as a better formula. Anybody has tried anything else? Please help!

gmom do you have sma staydown overthere?

Omar is on Aptamil AR. It's abit thick (not very thick) & doesnt cause constipation. The thickening agent is not startch or rice, it's a "special agent that thickens in rhe baby's stomach on digestion. the thickening agent is a natural gum which passes through the bay's system undigested softening the stools as it goes" - quoted frm the tin.

It made a difr but he's still abit sicky.

Jenson is on Enfamil A.R.

Its normal consistancy but then thickens in the stomach. Works brill with him. And it can be bought over the counter at chemists x
