Apparently my FIL doesn't like our name, which is why he calls our daughter by her middle name a lot. I just told DH, "this is why we didn't announce the name until she was born."

I should probably be more offended, but mostly I'm amused.

I'm glad that you are amused by it. I wouldn't be offended about the not liking it as we'll have different tastes, however it would annoy me that he is using her middle name because basically it's tough if he doesn't like the first name.

My FIL has never liked my kids names...grumpy old git. He calls Thomas Tom or boy and calls Sophie Soph or girl.

It would really pi$$ me off if someone though it was OK to call my child "girl" as to her name. I don't care if you dont like it, that is her name and that is what you will call her. I've had negative comments from dh family about our name choice and have basically told them to shut it.

Yeah me too mod. That's rude IMO x

MIL hates Lily's name. She had a bloody toddler tantrum over it. When she was born OH told her to "deal with it cos she's our daughter to name, not yours" Very proud moment on my part :haha: as long as you and OH love your daughters name, nobody else matters. I love the name Nora btw :)

What a loser, she is YOUR child, not his. He should call her by her first name. Or at least first and second at the same time.
Nora is lovely btw!

I refused to tell anyone the name while pregnant and that caused them to think of 'worst case scenarios' they where all so relieved no one has ever objected (but my son does have classic biblical names anyway)

my mam convinced herself I was going to pick something stripper-y like 'Candy Angel' or 'Crystal Star' lol

Wow people always astound me. I don't see the slightest thing wrong with the names Nora, Thomas or Sophie. What's the big deal with calling them what you want them to be called? Because they need to prove a point to you that they don't like it? Grow up.

If your FIL refers to your DD by her middle name again, ask him, "Who is ____?" Play dumb. Act like you don't understand who he's referring to unless he calls her by her first name.

What a douche.

If someone didn't want to refer to my daughter by her given name because they didn't like it, they wouldn't refer to her by anything - they just wouldn't see her.

Might be a bit of a culture thing with my FIL as a lot of maori people do it. He also calls my OH boy and me girl.
