Hey all!

I was searching the e-petitions online, with the aim of setting one up if there wasn't one on. There is petition for free universal child care, and if they get 100,000 signatures, then it gets discussed it Parliament!

i dont really understand the petition tbh

it says free universal childcare prior to starting school or nursery, at a glance yeah that sounds great, but in reality what age groups are we talking about if it is prior to nursery?

and universal childcare? not sure about that, so anyone can just pop their lo's into childcare setting whether they work or not?

actually rather than helping the economy i think it would cripple it

You should put this on the general chat, i think more people go onto that section of the website xx

It means so people have no excuse about abusing benefits, they could afford to work. They'd pay taxes, rather than being paid to stay at home. And obviously there would be a greater need for nursery staff.

I'm not saying all people on benefits are lazy, just that if they can work, they should (job availability depending)

dont get me wrong i understand the thinking but the reality is somewhat different

I'm not an economist, however, the billions being spent on benefits and tax credits could be put towards free childcare, surely?

I don't really understand how the reality would be different?
So they save money by those no longer on benefits as they can work, more tax being paid, and the money saved goes towards nursery fees?
If you choose not to work then thats your choice but you shouldn't get the same amount as someone who works imo. Making it worth while to work is the way forward for this country.

because everyone on benefits isnt simply just going to go out to work

Who will ultimately pay for this free universal childcare.
