This probably isn't the right page for this but no one answers the other pages...
So my ds seems ready for finger foods, he's starting to get really fussy when I feed him but is happy when he feeds himself his puffs or yogurt bites. My question is how do u freeze finger foods? Purees were so convinient in the ice cube trays! Do u just freeze in a freezer bag? But then how do u know how much to give? I loved that the ice cube trays were an ounce a cube. Any tips would be helpful. Thanks!

What kind of finger foods are you talking about and why would you want to freeze them?

I freeze finger foods .... savoury muffins, sweet corn fritters, courgette fritters, cheese scones, fish cakes, meatballs. I think that's it. Look on the Annabel Kermel website for more ideas.

I've never really frozen finger foods . Most are quick and easy to prepare; softened carrots, toast, cheese strips, fish fingers ...

I was thinking like the things I have to steam or bake...like carrots, apples, pears... or do u really pull out the steamer and make them for each meal 3 X a day? or am I totally off and u don't even need to steam them? Sorry ftm here...I was just getting the hang of purees and now he's ready to move on again lol

Oh no things like that are so easy .... get a metal colander, put the veg I there on top of a pot of boiling water, put the pot's lid on top of the colander until the veg are soft. Takes a couple of minutes.

Carrots apples etc I would do fresh but you could steam carrots abd freeze.
I am only looking at weaning. My daughter not ready yet. But when freezing for example a carrot. Put it in a freezer bag. Wrap/fold over. Add another and repeat until you ccan't fit anymore in

You do need to steam hard fruit and veg like carrot and apples etc at that age I think. They would keep in the frisdge for a day or 2. But I just gave them food that I was eating anyway. So bits of chicken or soft meat and whatever veg I had with my meal.
I guess snacks would just be softer things that didn't need cooking.

I found a good article if anyone's interested ....

I think it would take just as long to defrost a frozen steamed veg than just to steam from scratch.

If you cook the same food for your own meal the it isn't any extra work. So if you were having grilled chicken breast, mashed potato and steamed carrot, you'd just give your LO the same. Saves on having to make two meals, one for you, one for LO.

I stick things like blueberries in a Food Feeder (you can get it on Amazon if you search for "Kidsme Food Feeder") and then stick the whole thing in the freezer. It was especially good for when LO was teething.
