Rio absolutely loves fries!
I cut the potatoes myself and usually par boil then oven roast them, or on occasions for quickness fry them in vegetable oil.
I'm just wondering are they a really unhealthy choice for LO? I figured it was just like giving him roast potatoes or mash, but they are in the shape of sticks instead?
But MIL came around a few nights ago and seemed disgusted that Rio had chicken, broccoli and fries. So now I'm thinking am I doing the wrong thing giving him fries? Feeling like a bad mummy here!
And will feel so guilty if I have to stop because he LOVES to get his hands on them lol x

As part of a balanced diet they're fine! As you said, if they're oven cooked chunky ones, they're just a stick shaped roast potato.

I think the frying part is what gives them a bad name. If you can oven bake them its a better choice; sod your MIL!

LO loves them, I've given him shop bought ones that you put in the oven before rather than making my own. If you're a bad mummy then I'm pretty sure LO will be taken away from me soon :haha: if this was a regular thing then it wouldn't be a good idea but everything is fine in moderation and it's up to you what you feed your child.

Sounds fine to me! They're homemade, not like ur giving him frozen chips every day with whatever coating they put on them! :) sod ur mil!

Thanks :)
I am glad I got this response, they have to be one of his favourites..
funny really how he turns his nose up if I give him actual roast potatoes, but hand him one in the shape of a chip and its the best thing ever lol!

Nothing wrong with that! I don't see a problem in frying food as long as you only use a tiny bit of healthy oil and it's not like every meal every day lol. Chicken, veg and homemade chips is infinitely better than a jar of baby food!

Like others have said, if you can bake them, it's better. But babies also have higher fat needs than we do, so assuming it's not all the time, frying is okay too. Just keep doing what you're doing and try to make them yourself most of the time rather than using store-bought ones because those have added preservatives and salt. That said, I don't hesitate to give my daughter a couple when we're out at a restaurant if that's what we're eating, as long as she has other healthy things to eat as well. I don't see anything wrong with it. My husband's grandparents were freaked out that our daughter (at 11 months) ate beef and said it would give her a stomach ache! There are lots of old-fashioned ways of thinking about what babies eat that aren't true today.

Also, if Rio loves fries, you might try twice baked potatoes (we usually stuff them with herbs, butter, cheese and sometimes some yogurt or sour cream). My daughter loves them. And sweet potato fries are great too.

i see nothing wrong with it as part of a balanced diet and hey he will get the taste for home cooked ones, so when hes old he wont want the shop bought ones,
parents are just odd, my dad came round and I got the baby his bottle, with 6 oz, in and dad wanted to feed him, and he said he cant have all that and kept taking the bottle away saying you don't want all this milk and when I said they need min of a pint a day,,, a pint?? he said, ignore mil is a boiled potato that's then baked

Ds has homemade chips, nothing wrong with them as part of a healthy diet. He also loves sweet potato wedges, which are one of your five a day, whereas normal potatoes don't count. I think everything in moderation is fine. If we eat out he will occasionally eat chips which I'm sure are deep fried.
