Hello,

I am currently trying to wean my 3 month old baby from breast to bottles before I go back to work in a few months time.
I have been trying for the past 4 days and so far we have had point blank refusal, spitting back anything I can get into her and generally a reluctance to suck at all.

I'm not sure she actually knows how to suck the milk out of the bottle?

I have tried different teats and milk, my husband has tried and I tried a cup too!

Can anyone suggest anything else or have you had similar experiences? How long should I sit there for each feed trying? And how long did your baby take before accepting the bottle instead of breast?

Thanks for the help,

Leana x

The book I have says you just have to keep on trying...she will drink eventually when she gets hungry. I take it you're using the very slowest flow teats? Teats for a 3 month old will be too fast for her.

Are you using EBM or formula in the bottles?

I had the same problem with Leah, I ended up changing from Avent to TT CTN bottles and she was much better at taking the milk from them. The way I did it was ensure the milk was warm and at each feed just let her try again, take as much or as little as she wanted, eventually she just started to take it - took about 2 weeks though before she would take a proper feed from it. I then weened off the breast over then next month.

I havnt had this experienc as alfie just took both really easy.

But have you tried maybe giving expressed milk in a bottle. I used closer to nature ones from tommee tippee. Hope this helps x
