Do you find that you get lots of foam and froth bubbles in your formula when you make it up fresh? Do you think it affects your babies windiness or doesnt bother them either way? Any tips for avoiding formula becoming frothy? Any particular brands less forthy than others?

Sorry for all the frothy questions! xxx

Lol yes i notice this also. i make all my bottles up fresh, i dont think it makes a difference to wind tbh. what brand are you using? x

We use cow and gate. I used ready made liquid formula for the first 10 weeks with DD2 and then pre-made all her bottles when we switched to powder, so all the froth had subsided by the time we got it from the fridge. This time round I would like to use powder from the start, but wouldnt feel 100% comfortable with pre-making for a newborn, so will be making fresh, hence why I was wondering if the froth had any effect on wind. xxx

I never noticed any extra wind from frothy feeds. Alexander was pretty windy sometimes but I think it's a stage most newborns just go through and it gets better in time. I found that the cartons of ready-to-feed stuff didn't make him any less windy and there was no froth in those... I just made sure to burp him every couple of oz, it's all I could do. There are gas drops and such that supposedly help with wind. I never tried any of them but I know some people who had success with Infacol.

ah right not for us. I have made all bottles up fresh from birth too still do :)

I use a fork to stir mine and it seems to eliminate froth and foam.

It varies by brand. I know in the UK brands are different, but I was using Similac and found it was very frothy. We have since switched to Nestle and it is not at all frothy.

I find if i use hot or warm water it is frothy but if it is room temp it isn't. But i have not found it makes a diff to the wind

Evie's on aptamil- I make up feeds and store them in the fridge and theyre always really frothy but it's subsided by the time I take them out for feeds xx

Yes, it happens since we shake it. I've found the solution but it's hard to explain without showing. After I give the bottle a good shake I open it and move it around in a slow circular motion and after 30secs-1min the frothiness is nearly gone. I keep doing this until the milk is smooth. It really works! I'm not really sure if it contributes to gas when the milk is like that but it wouldn't surprise me. Although, my daughter hasn't suffered gas pains since she was a month or two old and we've also given her still frothy milk on occasion and there wasn't a problem.
