Midwife freaked me out saying I should have my bags ready now and be prepared because I am fully engaged. She also spent ages talking me through what to do when labour happens.

She very much gave the impression that Im about to drop any minute.

Has anyone else engaged early? If so when did you give birth? Or does anyone know of a "general" timespan as to how long after fully engaging you give birth?

Thanks all xx

is bubs your first? i heard that first can engage up to 4 weeks before labour -

do u by any chance have a picture of your bump you wouldnt mind sharing? id love to see what a fully engaged bump looks like as my bump seems to have dropped over the last day and i was getting a bit concerned

I'm pretty sure that with you first baby you can fully engage early on and still go over due. Just because they are engaged doesn't mean baby is on its way. Unless you have had a show etc.
I hope baby sticks a little longer for you, till he is fully developed. :hugs: xx

i've always been told/read that it doesn't have any relation to when you'll go into labour. but it's a good thing that baby is comfy in that position that early! xx

Thanks ladies.

Whilst I'd like him to be a bit early... 6 weeks is a bit much. He's not cooked enough yet. Stupid MW scaring the willies out of me. "Don't worry... he feel slike a good size so I don't think hey'd even try and stop labour if it happened now."

Wrggley - Yes he is my first. I don't have a current bump pic at the mo but am due one. Will put in bump pics in the next few days xx

yeah i wouldnt worry too much - i think she probably meant to have them packed just incase as its a sign of him getting ready but it dont mean labour will start any time soon either!

:):) thanks il keep a look out :)

errr - not sure what she said is strictly true! certainly wouldn't want anyone feeling my baby to tell his size if i was in preterm labour, not sure that's how it's done! silly midwives, i wouldn't worry hun, but it's good to be prepared  xx

your midwife sounds awful, not stopping labour at 34 weeks would be unheard of unless there were other complications. The babies lungs haven't fully developed until 36 weeks and then they can still not be completely functional till 37 weeks. She needs to be careful with her words. Sorry she worried you :hugs: xx

My midwife is thick as pig poop! Honestly she frightens the life out of me every time I go its some casual quip which puts the willies up me...

Just out of interest is your baby 0/5 palpable on your notes? That is pretty far down and must be uncomfortable for you, I dont think its a sign of imminent labour though x

She's just written Eng under relation to brim and in the notes part that I am fully engaged love xxx

I think they can be down there quite a while and I think they even come back out (maybe wrong though) but I do seem to remember with Alfie that he was engaged and then he wasnt. Silly mw, I do wish they would think about their commnents.

Sorry hun, but you could still have 8 weeks to go yet, babies can be engaged for a while before, especially 1st babies. Unfortunately it's no indication as to when bubs will arrive. My bump dropped weeks before I was due, no one thought I'd make it to m due date, MW included, well I proved them all wrong, 12 days late and induced!!! lol

congrats ng09, what a cute little button.

Kitty just seen this
Im 34+1 today and was told bubs is fully engaged, my bump is very similar to youre recent pic too. Midwife asked me if id done bags n stuff i said yeah she said best to be prepared but said babies can go down and come out a few times before labour. I think your midwife was a bit tactless in the way she said things and has obv put the fear into you lol. Dont worry, bubs will come when time is right....hopefully in 4 or 5 weeks :)
