just wondering if anyone knows of any funding available for people to go back into education in the uk?

I want to become a midwife but need to do an access course at college before going to university and its going to cost about £800 and then childcare on top.

My OH works but we're still not loaded and I would struggle to afford £800.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Are you 19 years or older?

I saw a few other things like this on the website ages ago, but i can't find them all.

i've applied to do pgce and i know that i i get onto the course i will get a student loan. not sure how an access course works though...

If you contact the college directly they should be able to advise you, some have their own bursary scheme, but all will have someone who is trained to advise prospective students on what help is available nationally.

When I did my access course it was funded by the college, and I was 20 then. Try contacting your local college. The terms of mine was that I hadn't done a nvq lvl 3 course before.
You also only get a student loan for degree level/ pgce

If it's full time and you do not already have a qualification at the level of the college course (in your case an access course) It should be free. And again speak to the college advisors.

I already have Alevels thats the problem, they are just not the right ones for this uni course and because OH works we will get no help with fees :( I just want to better myself for the sake of my children

Oh no  Could you consider a foundation degree (starts at level 4 then 5 then can progress to BA Level 6) either full time or part time because uni tend to prefer that for mature students. What's the course that you are applying for at UNI, and what are your A Levels. It does sound upsetting that they are not considering your A Levels for your Uni course, surely alevels are alevels regardless.

The reason I say starting with a foundation degree is because they do recap breifly over level 3 and it is work based so they will also look at your experience. I don't know much about midwifey but it would be benefical if you could find a trainee job and then start the foundation degree part time, that way work may fund your fees.

Im doing the same course as you just been accepted at college to do access to nursing, but because i havent got any NVQ's in health care the course is for free, so if u havent got any nvq it should be free.
