Hi girls

My lo has reflux and has just been prescribed infant gaviscon i put it in his bottle a hour ago and it kept blocking the teat - is this because its thicker and i need to go up a teat size i already went from 1 to 2s incase too or am i just preparing it wrong - any advice would be great

thanks :flower:

personally i never had a problem with gaviscon blocking the teats at all, the flow was slower but it was never blocked, are you insuring its mixed enough? :)
my LO was fine with the size 1 teats till 5 months with gaviscon in, all LOs are different with flow.

Omar was on size 3 at 3 months with anti reflux formula. Dr. browns teats flow is much slower than other bottles. He was on size 2 TT CTN anti colic bottles but he needed size 3 when we switched to Dr. browns at around 12 weeks xx

i 2nd the dr browns teats being slower than other brands.

my lo was on a size 3 with a reflux formula.

when my lo was on gaviscon i used to add the gaviscon to the hot water first, give it a good shake. you will probably need a travel cap to do this with the dr browns due to leaking. alternitavely you could stir with a weaning spoon. i then used to wait another 10 min or so and add my powder. this worked perfectly for me x

its best to add the gaviscon right b4 feeding. Gaviscon isn't supposed to thicken the feed so much, it works by putting a layer over the milk in lo's tummy. However if you make it too far in advance it can thicken in the bottle. Jx

The problem i find is that if i add just before the feed it doesnt mix properly and blocks the teat holes  i think that was my issue as i pre make my bottles

I found that if i mixed it with the boiling water it dissolved and thickened and then i added the power and later when i warmed it again it does go really thick but i have gone up to size 2's now and it seems to come out the teat fine and he hasnt been sick since last night - so i guess its working

xxx

Gaviscon shouldnt thicken it. Im guessin either the milk hasnt been shaken properly or the milk he is on is thick? but yeahh just do what your doing by going up a size in the teets, if theyre still blocked, go up another.
My LO uses drbrowns and also takes Gaviscon, but her milk is very thick so she is on size 3 teets.
x

we add gavison to ready to drink water shake really hard so we can see its all dissolved them add powder we sometime add it to the water we pre make up for night feeds heat up water then add milk but have noticed if we add milk and gavison together it blocks our teats but only once (but were using TT)

My daughters dr. had me start putting rice cereal in her bottles for reflux.. i too use dr. brown (wide neck) and I've found that the size 2 teats work perfectly. :)

gaviscon doesnt thicken the milk it forms a gel like layer over the milk once in LO's tummy to stop it from ocming back up, so your problem prob is the gaviscon isnt mixed in properly.

you need to add the gaviscon as your about to use the bottle so if you premake like i did warm the bottle put gaviscon in shake really well i nevr had any problems doing it this way x
