Anyone using Gaviscon find that their LO is constipated since starting it? Seems to be making my wee man constipated so is unsettled. Dunno how well its working cause hes still refusing bottle afer 2oz even tho hes defo hungry

hi, gaviscon definately helps the milk stay down but I found it gave Charlie really bad constipation, he was on it for about a month then I weaned him off it myself and just put up with a lot of pukey clothes rather than the constipation which seemed to be really painful for him.. my HV was dead against gaviscon and I think she's right - it didn't really help Charlie's colic at all, just held the milk down. Try giving your LO as much water as possible as well - that usually helps with the constipation (I put a tiny amount of pure OJ in Charlie's water once and that really helped too) good luck:thumbup:

my lo has silent reflux and was on gaviscon and it worked brilliantly but when he started getting constipated we only put it in 2 out of every 6 bottles.
he goes to poo fine again now and we give him plenty of water and tummy massages.

If he's constipated, it will reduce his appetite. Cool boiled water is the way to keep him going - a little each day.

Have you tried a different formula? I've heard people have good results with SMA staydown, although I haven't tried it myself.

yeah we were given bby gaviscon same thing happened. so its a choice between being big time constipated or big time sick. hv said as the sickness doesnt upset him at all don't bother with the gaviscon also we had to use 2 sachets a time for it to have any effect on him! So now we're back to aptamil colic and constipation milk and jus putting up with the sick he's cool with it, but cannot handle being constipated (when he was we tried everything and still wouldnt shift for days and days) so just not worth gaviscon imo xx

it didnt make my little one constipated, but made his poos a little more solid like. But defo not constipated! x

It made kacey the same. I tried boiled water and OJ. the only thing that seemed to help was taking her off it. She has it so mild. That she is much better without. When you see your LO strain. Rub the balls of his feet. This did get kacey to go.

We had the same but found sma staydown done the same without theconstipation. great stuff x

thanks for all your replies girls. Health visitor is coming tomorrow so maybe see if i should take him off it and try different milk. Hard to know which one was worse for him. Poor wee mite, doesnt get it easy. Hopefully get something sorted Hes getting cow and gate level one still, plus infacol and gaviscon,

We're having exactly the same issues. Rebecca isn't totally constipated; things have just "firmed up" considerably and she's definitely uncomfortable. The trouble is that she is eating better and definitely taking more.

We were putting it in every other bottle, we're now going to do 1:3 to see what happens. We also give 1-2oz cooled boiled water per day.

We can't win - if she doesn't have the Gaviscon the silent relux is awful, if she does then she struggles to have a poo - it's so complicated!!

Gaviscon made Nathan REALLY uncomfortable, more so than the reflux. It was awful and didn't even work for him.

I am using now Aptamil comfort for the reflux, although it doesn't say it is for that it is working a treat so far, plus it is for constipation and colic so helps all round!

yea the health visitor wants me to give the gaviscon another week and if still having problems then maybe change his milk. Am giving him prune juice to see if that helps with the constipation but no luck as yet. Never thought id see the day when every conversation with my hubby involves poos lol
