Aaaargh so over the last couple of weeks the gaviscon isnt really working anymore and shes back to her whiney sicky self and im not sure what to do ...

Before i drag her down the doctors i wonder if anyone can help ...

She takes a 7oz bottle 5 times a day and im currently putting 1 sachet in with her nilk.

Now the instructions say

"In FF babies under 10lb one dose to be mixed in with no less and 115ml of milk (roughly 4oz) Over 10lbs TWO sachets to be mixed into no less than 225ml of milk (roughly 8oz)"

Confusing much? Brooke weighs 11lbs ...

So do i use one sachet in her milk or two? :hissy::hissy:

I have no idea really but could you use 1 & 1/2?

Although she is over 10lbs and is almost taking 8oz so maybe just use 2 sachets?

I don't know hun but Gaviscon doesn't work for Charlie either. He's just seen a paediatrition and has been prescribed Omeprazole and Domperidone. Maybe these might work for Brooke. x

Erin is also taking 7oz bottles and when I give her the Gaviscon at night before bed I use 2 sachets. During the day, if she's having a sicky day I only use 1 though.

Aaaaaaargh :hissy:

As im unsure of where to go with this i phone the doctor and made a telephone appointment ...

I explained and the doctor basically told me to read the instructions!! :hissy: Im not a d*ckhead i have read the stupid instructions. She said its something i should be speaking to the HV about and if she decides she can have more then its up to her .... urrrrm no, the doctor prescribed it, i want the doctors approval/recomendations on the issue :hissy: And then she said your only to give it to her 4 times a day .... so why did the doctor and the instructions say 6 times a day?

I'm really pissed now she spoke to me like a complete idiot, so screw the lot of them im going to try some baby rice tonight in a pretty much desperate attempt to help ease it seeings as nobody else wants to help me!!

And breeeeeeathe!!

How long has she been on Gaviscon? After several weeks, a baby will build up a sort of immunity to it, and it will no longer help and the reflux will come back.

You can do two things:

* Up the dose, which will often not work due to the fact the digestive system is already used to the Gaviscon.

* Get your doctor to prescribe a different medicine. I can't remember the name of it, but OH is home in an hour and knows what it is, so I'll post the name of it.

I would say 2!!

But i do rememeber you can only give it to them a certain amount of times a day

Hope you get some answers soon :)

I know I'm not a FF, and not sure if it would make a difference (not sure why it would though!), but I give 2 sachets. The doctor weighed Oliver when she first prescribed it and he was 10lb 2oz, so she put him straight onto 2 sachets. I only gave 4 doses a day, but he was sleeping through the night, so didn't need any then. I think it is something that needs to be fiddled with to find the best solution for you.
Oliver is now down to 2 doses a day and we are tryin git with 1 dose at the moment.
Hope this helps hun and that she grows out of it soon x x

Cant offer any advice hun, as i thought Patrick was having reflux but it was the hungry baby formula upsetting him...Brooke aint on that is she?
Anyway, How you getting on anyway? Hope you're ok. xxx

argh holly what a useless idiot you spoke to! am so sorry you're not getting any help! ffs we no to read the instructions, we know our baby, but some medical guidance would be nice! :hugs: so hope the rice helps x

I go into the doc's and ask for a piedtrition appointment. GP's know jack shit about reflux and even my piedtrtition says gaviscon does nothing...so why the fuck as gp's prescribing it ?!?!? Its ridiculous! Go in and insist for her to be seen there are alot of stuff to help reflux babies (jacob has tried 5 diff things so far!) so it just shows there is alot other things available! They just like to prescribe gaviscon so it seems like there doing something!

XxxX

Gaviscon does help, alot. It has made so much difference to Niamh. It's just that babies bodies become used to it after a few weeks. It's a very short term solution, however it's something they prescribe first as it's more gentle on babies tummies than other medicine, plus babies grow out of reflux eventually.

You'll need to use 2 sachets, but if that doesnt work you really need to be referred to a paediatrician.

gaviscon helped elliot loads, but i know in bad cases it's been known to do nothing!

keely.

I don't know if they have this in the UK but I use a formula that is specifically for spitting up and gas. Its Enfimil A+ gentlease. I've been using it for a week and Betty is keeping so much more of her food down, and has less digestive issues.
She was taking a prescription of ranitidine, but she doesn't need it anymore with this formula...

PP- I asked my OH and he said to ask for Zantac. It's what Docs prescribe if Gaviscon stops working. Hope that helps.

Along with other problems Niamh has reflux.
The problem with reflux is that you will never solve it with medication, you will just make things easier. We have good weeks and bad weeks. I thought gaviscon wasn't working but after forgetting to take it out with me one day and Niamh was violently sick i realised that it does help.
Your GP is only able to prescribe gaviscon as all other medication needs to be prescribed by a paediatrician as they are not licensed for use in children. If yoou get no joy from your GP then your health visitor may be able to refer you to a paediatrician.
Niamh has been prescribed domperidone, which gave her terrible stomach cramps and omeprozole. I've stopped them both at the moment and she is just having gaviscon. Niamh has about 180mls of milk and we have been using 1 1/2 doses (a bit tricky to measure!) I didn't think the medication made any difference to Niamh and things are no worse by having just gaviscon.
I don't think people/GP's realise how stressful it is having a baby with reflux. Niamh has a cleft palate, so everytime she's sick it comes down her nose, then she stops breathing and its a nightmare.
I started weaning Niamh this week as thats what the hospital want and up to now its made no difference, in fact today she's been very sicky.

Has upping it to 2 sachets worked? If not ask for referral like Ema says. Ollie is under a paediatrition (sp) now and on a dairy free diet as it wasn't reflux he had after all x

Agree agree agree!!!!!

Gaviscon does help some babies but for us it only lasted a few weeks, Rebecca is now on Ranitadine otherwise known as Zantac but that is because she has silent reflux so doesnt throw up. Think Domperidone#sp# is usually recommened foir sicky reflux babies as it moves the milk from theor tummies quicker so there is nothing to throw up.
I really had to fight to get the ranitadine though and its been great and still is several weeks on!!!

Good Luck:hug:

Hey Holly, not sure if you have seen but there is an artical in practical parenting this month. It has some ideas about help to help it, not sure if any are relevant or not? I can scan it if you want me to.
