Hi ladies. I was just wondering if anyone else has had GD in the first trimester. I had it pretty bad when pregnant with dd last year (was diagnosed at 20 weeks) so this time I have been monitoring my sugar levels from the off. Everything was fine until 6 weeks and since then I have had problems with fasting sugars and after breakfast, although after lunch and dinner levels are normal. Fortunately, when I called the midwife number to register myself as pregnant, I asked to be referred to diabetic midwife, which they did, and she advised me to go back to diabetic diet and to check levels once a day at random times and she'd call back in a few weeks to see where we go from there. Well she called back yesterday and after telling her my numbers she wants to see me in clinic this week or next, but she did say they were only a little high and didn't seem too concerned. The thing is I'm worried about birth defects seeing as it's happening in the first trimester. I did ask her about it and she said for that to be a risk, my levels would have to be consistantly in double figures and that everything will be fine, but I've been terrified by everything I've read on google. Sorry for long post lol. Got a little carried away haha x

I had diabetes with both pregnancies (i now have type 1 diabetes) my first baby it started at 25 weeks, then with my second at my 10 week appointment i had ++++ glucose in my urine, so at 11 weeks was sent for a GTT which came back high. Try and get a prescription for a higher dose of folic acid. Other than that, if your levels are well controlled everything will be ok x
